มหกรรมกีฬาแห่งภูมิภาค "SEA Games ครั้งที่ 31" เตรียมกลับมาพร้อมกับ Esports ที่เวียดนาม พร้อมประกาศรายชื่อเกมชุดแรกที่ใช้แข่งแล้ว

ถือเป็นเรื่องที่น่ายินดีอย่างยิ่งสำหรับเกมเมอร์ชาวไทยและอาเซียน เมื่อคณะกรรมการจัด SEA Games 2021 ของเวียดนาม ได้พิจารณาให้มีการแข่งขัน Esports อย่างเป็นทางการ โดยชิงชัย 6 เหรียญทองจาก 6 เกมเช่นเคย พร้อมประกาศชื่อ 3 เกมแรกที่ตบเท้าเข้าร่วมงานแล้ว ได้แก่

- Arena of Valor (MOBA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer (Sport)
- Dota 2 (MOBA)

ทั้งนี้ จะยังมีอีก 3 เกมที่จะเปิดเผยในภายหลัง โดย Esports เป็นหนึ่งในกีฬาที่คณะกรรมการจัด SEA Games 2021 ได้เพิ่มเข้ามาเป็นพิเศษในครั้งนี้ ได้แก่ ไตรกีฬา, โบว์ลิ่ง, ยิวยิตสู และ Esports ตามลำดับ นี่จึงถือเป็นครั้งที่ 2 ในประวัติศาสตร์ที่คณะกรรมการโอลิมปิกสากลได้รับรองให้การแข่งเกม สามารถใช้แข่งเพื่อชิงเหรียญรางวัลได้เทียบเท่ากีฬาจริง หลังจากที่ SEA Game 2019 ได้ประเดิมเป็นครั้งแรกของโลกไปเรียบร้อยแล้ว

โดยในปี SEA Game 2019 ที่ฟิลิปปินส์ ทัพนักกีฬาไทยก็ทำผลงานได้ดีเยี่ยมด้วยการคว้า 2 เหรียญทองจาก Tekken 7 และ Arena of Valor พร้อม 1 เหรียญเงินจาก Hearthstone โดยเหรียญทองจาก AoV ถือเป็นเหรียญทอง Esports แรกในประวัติศาสตร์ของประเทศไทยอีกด้วย และยังเหรียญรวมเป็นอันดับ 2 เป็นรองแค่เจ้าภาพเท่านั้น

สำหรับรายชื่ออีก 3 เกมที่เหลือนั้น มีความเป็นไปได้ว่าเกมที่ถูกใช้แข่งใน SEA Games 2019 และใน Asian Games 2018 จะได้รับการพิจารณาก่อน อันได้แก่ Starcraft II, Tekken 7, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Clash Royale และ League of Legends ทั้งนี้ ก็ต้องติดตามข้อมูลจากทางเจ้าภาพเวียดนามกันต่อไป

การแข่งขันกีฬา SEA Games เป็นการแข่งขันกีฬาระหว่างกลุ่มประเทศในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ จัดขึ้นทุก ๆ สองปี และ SEA Games 2021 มีกำหนดจัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 21 พ.ย. - 2 ธ.ค. 2021 ที่ประเทศเวียดนาม ซึ่งได้เป็นเจ้าภาพครั้งล่าสุดเมื่อปี 2003
