วัดโพธารามมหาวิหาร หรือ วัดเจ็ดยอด ตั้งอยู่ที่ ต.ช้างเผือก อ.เมือง จ.เชียงใหม่ ถูกสร้างขึ้นในปี พ.ศ.1998 สมัยพระเจ้าติโลกราช แห่งราชวงศ์มังราย กล่าวกันว่า พระองค์ส่งเสนาบดีเดินทางไปอินเดียเพื่อจำลองแบบมหาวิหารที่พุทธคยา และโปรดฯ ให้สร้างมหาวิหารด้วยศิลาแลง ประดับลวดลายปูนปั้น มีต้นพระศรีมหาโพธิ์เป็นบริโภคเจดีย์ปลูกอยู่ทางด้านหลังของมหาวิหาร คล้ายกับที่พุทธคยา แทนการสร้างพระเจดีย์ที่บรรจุพระบรมสารีริกธาตุเช่นที่วัดอื่น

มหาวิหารที่วัดแห่งนี้เป็นทรงพีระมิด มียอดเจดีย์ด้านบน 7 ยอด ต่างจากวิหารอื่นในอาณาจักรล้านนา ผนังด้านข้างมีลายปูนปั้นรูปเทวดาพนมมือ แต่งเครื่องทรงกษัตริย์ พระเจ้าติโลกราชยังโปรดฯให้สร้างสัตตมหาสถานล้อมมหาวิหารนี้

ในปี พ.ศ. 2020 วัดโพธารามมหาวิหาร เป็นสถานที่สังคายนาพระไตรปิฎกครั้งที่ 8 และใช้เวลา 1 ปี เป็นการชำระตรวจสอบความถูกต้องโดยใช้ตัวอักษรธรรมล้านนาจารึกเป็นพระไตรปิฎกขึ้นเป็นครั้งแรก โดยมีพระธรรมทินมหาเถระเป็นประธานฝ่ายสงฆ์ และมีพระเจ้าติโลกราชเป็นประธานฝ่ายคฤหัสถ์ นอกจากนี้ มหาวิหารวัดเจ็ดยอด ยังเป็นพระธาตุประจำปีเกิด ปีมะเส็ง ด้วยเช่นกัน

นับเป็นวันอันงดงามที่สุดของเมืองแคนดี้ แม้ในยามค่ำคืนก็จะได้เห็นแสงสีอันงดงามตระการตา เป็นเทศกาลสำคัญที่ทุกท่านไม่ควรพลาดเป็นอย่างยิ่ง เพื่อเป็นการสักการะพระทันตธาตุอันศักดิ์สิทธิ์แห่งองค์สัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า
