「相傳荷蘭有一個老人一生最愛幫助貧苦人家，有次他為了幫助三個貧窮少女逃過被賣的不幸，所以偷偷把金磚從窗戶扔進去家中，恰好掉進晾在壁爐上的一隻長襪中。後來荷蘭傳教士把這故事傳到美國，而聖誕老人的故事亦漸漸地流行於世界。」後來，世界各地的孩子們都繼承了懸掛聖誕襪的傳統。每個平安夜，孩子總會把色彩繽紛的襪子掛在床頭，然後在襪子旁邊放一杯熱牛奶，讓勞苦功高的聖誕老人解渴，並昐望聖誕老人送份大禮給自己。

ณ.ประเทศฟินแลนด์ มีชายชราใจดีคนหนึ่ง ที่ชอบช่วยเหลือผู้คนอยู่เป็นประจำ ในครั้งหนึ่งเขาอยากจะมอบทองคำจำนวน 3 ถุง ให้แก่เด็กสาวผู้ยากไร้ทั้ง 3 คน เพื่อให้พ้นจากการถูกขาย เขาจึงหยิบทองคำออกมาเพื่อจะส่งมอบให้แก่เด็กสาว 1 ในนั้นโดยการโยนมันเข้าไปในหน้าต่าง แต่….ทันใดนั้นเอง ถุงทองคำที่เขาได้โยนเข้าไป มันกลับกระเด็นไปตกอยู่ในถุงเท้าที่แขวนอยู่ข้างเตาผิงอย่างพอดิบพอดี…….

และนี่……

ก็คือเรื่องเล่าที่สืบทอดต่อๆกันมา จนกลายมาเป็นธรรมเนียมการมอบของขวัญโดยใส่ไว้ในถุงเท้าในวันคริสมาสต์
