As I Have “Loved” You
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another.” (John 13:34 WEB)
Does Jesus still love us today? Yes of course, His love endures forever and nothing will separate us from the love of God.
Then why did Jesus use the past tense “loved” in the verse above?
I believe it is because He wants us to see Him loving us in a specific way that He accomplished in the past. Not just imagining that He loves us, but based on an event that happened.
For everyone reading these words throughout time, they can look back to the time when Jesus died for them on the cross. They can read about it in the four gospels.
This is how He loved us. He loved us with arms stretched wide, nailed upon the cross.
His back was lacerated by the scourging He endured before being crucified, and in the spirit realm, invisible to the eyes of men, He was burnt by the fiery wrath of God for sins. It was like being tortured in Hell with the most intense level of pain for those hours that He hung alive at the cross.
Anytime you are disappointed or discouraged by circumstances and feel like God has abandoned you to suffer, look back to how Jesus loved you at the cross.
If Abba God gave His only begotten Son who He loves so dearly to die for us at the cross and pay the ultimate price for sins, while we were still enemies who didn’t care about God at all, there is absolutely no way that He will abandon you or stop loving you today.
Our confidence in God’s love for us is not based on a feeling, but based on a true demonstration.
“For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.” (Romans 5:6-11 NKJV)
Jesus carried your sins and diseases at the cross even though He was perfect and did no wrong, and He suffered great agony before He gave up His spirit. Nothing the devil throws at you can ever change this truth.
Words really fail to accurately and precisely describe what Jesus went through for us. If could feel just one minute of what He suffered at the cross, we would truly be grateful to Him.
Imagine being pierced, lacerated, and bruised all over your body, all the darkness of the sins of the world entering you, and being burnt with hellfire at the level meant for the worst sinner.
Thank You Jesus for suffering those six hours on the cross. People can die from one moment of getting hit by a car—think about that. Even just one second of the pain and despair of the cross would wreck us. Lord Jesus, we give You all the glory, the honor, and believe that Your love for us endures forever.

If you were to ask me which is the creepiest, scariest and most gruesome chapter in the Bible, I would have to say Judges 19.
In it, the depths of moral degradation and depravity can be seen, even though in terms of the volume of bloodshed, it's nothing compared to the Book of Revelation.
If you thought the Bible doesn’t depict or describe sin, then be prepared to be challenged in your belief.
The Bible doesn't portray violence and evil just to scare you or for shock factor like in horror movies. There is a purpose for it, and it's always God-centered.
In this case, we are given a frightful chapter to show what happens when man doesn't want God to be in charge.
