My session with Dr Tan was an eye-opening session as I learnt more about how our gut works and why it’s important to maintain good bacteria inside us!
I thought I knew all I needed when it comes to dealing with issues of the gut. But boy! I was wrong!
I always assumed you MUST take your medicines or supplements AFTER eating, but there are situations that’s best to take before your meal, especially if your child is unwell and has no appetite to eat. I also learnt that even fruit juice can worsen your diarrhoea and folks…. NO to Charcoal tablets! I remember the days where mum would make us take that , or burnt toast. All major international guidelines do not recommend the use of either loperamide and charcoal as this has been proven not useful and may be harmful. Instead probiotics are encouraged instead. With so many in the market to choose from, there’s no probiotic that fits all.
