I am FURIOUS, and CRUSHED. The HK Powerlifting Association will not let me compete at the World IPF Classic Championships this June in Canada.
- I won the Asia Powerlifting Championships Dec 2017
- I hold all of the national records for my category
- I was told by the HKWPA that I would be allowed to compete at the World IPF Championships....THEY LIED.
This government funded association has refused to nominate me to compete, due to 'limited resources.' This is despite the fact that every single athlete pays their own accommodation and flights to compete. I would have done so for Canada. This association would rather have me compete in other Asian competitions, and win medals, so that they can receive more funding. But World Champs? Forget it.
Dec 2017: The HKWPA told me I would have to travel on my own, and pay for myself.
Feb 2018: The HKWPA told me I would have to also pay for a HKWPA representative to accompany me.
Mar 2018 (Last week): The HKWPA told me that the 'executive committee' has decided not to send anyone this year - that I should wait to compete in the Asian Championships again and win a medal.
Hong Kong athletes will NEVER compete at the world level if they are limited to entering competitions where they will only win medals. If you cannot truly challenge yourself, and test yourself against those better than you - you cannot improve. Hong Kong- THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE because I REFUSE to take this lying down!
