flowers/buses (singular/ plural) 單數與複數
The mother is wearing shorts.( jeans/ a shirt)
There is a flower on each table.
There are flowers on each table.
There are two children in the family. (I am the only child in the family)

已查過一些字典和網路上的英語論壇資料
glasses, jeans, pants 等等都須配合複數動詞來使用
而a pair of + Ns 因把成雙的東西當做一個整體來看待,故通常當作單數來使用,
但令我感到疑惑的是, 當再次提到這個東西時,
應用單數代名詞還是複數代名詞呢?
網路上查到了兩個相關的資料:

裡頭的例句:
(a) I took a pair of shorts out of the drawer and put them in my suitcase.
(b) I had a pair of field-glasses in my cupboard so I gave them to Tom for

從以上例句發現可用they來指稱前面的提到的shorts和field-glasses

裡頭的例句:
There was a pair of shoes on the bed, but now they are under the desk.
有三個以英語為母語的人士都認為用they來指the shoes是比較常見的
且認為用it is under the desk是很不自然的說法,因這裡不是在強調a pair件數,
而是在指the shoes
然而,在國中英語翰林第六冊第二課p.22的練習題中,卻又出現了以下的句子:
The pair of jeans is so expensive that Jeff doesn't have enough money for it.
我的理解是這裡仍舊把牛仔褲視為一個整體,因此it代替的是the pair of jeans
我的問題在這:
課本這句話是否可以改成 The pair of jeans is so expensive that Jeff doesn't
have enough money for them.
用them來代替the jeans?
此外,也請各位幫忙看一下以下這句
The pair of shoes is so small that I can't wear it/them.
這句話應該選it還是them呢?
