Announced my new Cabinet line-up this afternoon. It’s a more extensive reshuffle than usual, and early in the term. This is because Heng Swee Keat is relinquishing the Finance portfolio, and I have also moved several Ministers on the frontline dealing with COVID-19 – Health, Manpower and Trade and Industry. Some other Ministers have been redeployed to give them fresh opportunities, and gain different exposure and experience.
The new appointments take effect on 15 May. While our COVID-19 situation is stabler now, the crisis is not over, and we have to get to work quickly.
Most of the 4G Ministers have already accumulated experience in a range of portfolios. The reshuffle is an opportunity for them to work together in new capacities, and become readier as a team to take over from me and my older colleagues.
