Everyone Needs Forgiveness

“Jesus, standing up, saw her and said, “Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more.”” (John‬ ‭8:10-11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

It’s very easy to cast stones of condemnation at people until you are the one kneeling in the midst needing to be forgiven.

At that point, you will hope that others will be forgiving to you.

“Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”” (Luke‬ ‭7:47‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

God offers all of us forgiveness for our sins. We all make mistakes and should give others a second chance because He freely extended the same to us.

When you know that you are forgiven of much, you will love much. Notice how Jesus didn’t specify loving Him only. Such a person will graciously love both God and man.

Can you recall the last time you made a big mistake and were truly remorseful for it? I’m sure you hoped that the person you wronged would be willing to forgive you.

A forgiving person is full of love, and God is love. When you forgive willingly, you demonstrate the heart of God.

The unwillingness to forgive is a poison that only hurts yourself. That bitterness and anger does nothing but evil for your body and soul. Let it go—forgive even as Christ has forgiven you and enjoy the healing, freedom, and inward joy from doing so!

Like many, I fell in love with Truck Torrence’s Dumpster Fire character as soon as I saw it, picking up a resin version at San Diego Comic Con for a friend, wishing I had bought an extra one for myself. Even before 2020 and our current, collective flirtation with the end of world as we know it, the Dumpster Fire perfectly encapsulated the time. When Truck approached me to see if I’d be interested in shooting a production version of the toy, I jumped at the chance and carved out time in-between War Toys trips, thinking that I wouldn’t have another chance with everything I had planned for 2020. Sigh.

Setting up late at night, underneath strings of paper lanterns and among scurrying cockroaches, Truck and I had settled on a simple shot concept – the Dumpster Fire in its natural setting: dirty yet cute. I asked Truck to expand upon a newspaper design that appeared on his toy packaging, wanting to capture that same tongue-in-cheek message of disbelief that every news headline elicited, “Are you serious right now?”

The prop newspaper was suspended on a rod, as if blowing through the scene. The lighting was a combination of actual fire from a small, die-cast dumpster stand-in (to make the light on the wall and ground appear accurate), ambient sources, and handheld flashlights. A bit of water was used to pick up reflections and add to the textured griminess. The various elements were all brought together and refined in postproduction.

It’s been a treat to collaborate with Truck, both on the shoot as well as the print release. A few months shy of a year old, the photo feels just as timely now as when it was shot, if not more so, thanks to the prophetic perfection of the Dumpster Fire toy. I hope that his little smile and plastic flames warm your heart and give you a little solace in these especially troubled times.

I did not expect to enjoy Apple TV+’s new show, Ted Lasso. I mean, come on: a Ned Flanders kind of character leading a Premier League football team?

Well, somehow, like the character in the show, it wins me over with its sweet kindness and sincerity. It is genuinely funny too.

In a year of bad news and coronavirus, Ted Lasso is the optimism and hope we need.

The ensemble cast is part of its strength and his assistant coach, Coach Beard, and kit man Nathan, are a hoot. Like football, this show is a team game.

Jason Sudeikis also shows he can act. It is not easy to take a parody character and make you feel empathy for him but Jason pulls it off in some rather touching moments.

I watched it thinking it was some silly comedy but it turned out to be more than that. It really grows on you.

Ted Lasso may be the reason you renew your free trial of Apple TV+ that you got with a new iPhone. Also, I am looking forward to Foundation. So I’ll hang around a little longer.

Claypot Seafood Rice
Ingredients:
Serves 3 - 4 pax
----------
3 cups rice (450g or 15.87oz)
3 cups water (510ml or 17.25 fl oz )
20g dried scallops (soak in the 3 cups of water for 1 hour then shred them with a fork)
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
2 tablespoons fish sauce (can be replaced with light soy sauce)
1 thumb-sized young ginger (chopped)
100g (3.53 oz) fresh scallops (sliced in halves)
200g (7oz) prawns (deshelled & deveined)
280g (9.88oz) venus clams
A dash of black pepper
2 tablespoons Chinese white rice wine)
1 tablespoon premium dark soy sauce
A handful of coriander leaves (optional)
1 - 2 stalks of spring onion (optional)
