【在職場，寫了Email卻得不到回信？有時候，對方其實在等你給他 #回信的理由】

對於經常要撰寫英文書信的職場人來說，無論是開發或者聯絡，你是否準確的表達，常常決定了對方是否要回覆，也決定了客戶是否認同你。

之前曾有一位負責幫公司申請國外專案資格認證的經理提問，他說一週前，他寫信給認證單位釐清某份文件是否也需要填寫，但對方遲遲沒有回覆，眼看申請認證的截止日期再過三天就要到了，到時認證要是沒拿到，公司就不能賣相關產品，造成公司財務損失...

像經理這樣有求於人，卻又等不到回覆的情境，你我都不陌生。為什麼對方不趕快回信呢？明明這些要求都很簡單啊，明明我們只是要知道一個數據、拿到一份報告、確認一個流程而已，手指頭在鍵盤敲個幾下，就可以回信了不是嗎？為什麼都過了一週，卻還沒有消息呢？

其實，我們在職場時常會收到一些「#無理要求」的email。這裡的無理並非無理取鬧，而是「#沒有理由(no reason)」，意思就是：有人會寫信請他提供數據、報告或幫忙處理一些事，但卻都沒解釋「為什麼」，看得他滿頭問號，覺得「我有義務做這些事嗎？」應該沒有很急吧？有時甚至遇到要求涉及機密，更讓他不知所措，乾脆統統不回，收件匣裡一堆信不知如何整理。

這邊舉一個容易被已讀不回的句子：

Could you please send me the latest figure by Jan 11?（可以請你在1月11之前寄給我報告嗎？）

文法正確，但字面上因為少了「為什麼」的解釋，無法令人感受到回信的「急迫性」！

這時只要善用 so that（如此一來），在句子後面補上應該要快點回覆的「理由」，例如，對方只要回信就能：解決什麼問題、達到什麼目的、完成什麼人的要求、趕上什麼時間點等，對收件者「明示」若不早點回信，可能會造成的影響是什麼。

比方說：Could you please send back the latest figure by Jan 11 so that we can finish the test by its deadline?（請在1月11日之前寄回報告，如此一來我們才能在截止日期前完成測試。）

看完 so that 之後的原因後，收件者就會「很清楚」知道若沒有即時回信是會有「代價」的，自然就會加速回信囉！

所以，想要加速對方回信，其實很簡單！就是：給對方一個理由，告訴他「為什麼」這些數據、報告、事情「應該」要馬上處理。

我看過之後認為，佛奇實際的意思，是說，你們這些參議員說得太扯了，美國沒有參與中國研發病毒。而他支持更多的調查。
　
但因為記者剛剛問他，你覺得病毒是自然產生的嗎？而他第一句就回：不，這就是我說過的重點。出現的時機很不好。
　
就字面上，跟就前後文意，的確有兩種解讀方式。

I think that we should continue to investigate what went on in China until we find out to the best of our ability exactly what happened. Certainly the people who've investigated say it likely was the emergence from an animal reservoir that then infected individuals, but it could have been something else. And we need to find that out. So, you know, that's the reason why I said I'm perfectly in favor of any investigation that looks into the origin of the virus.

（响每個人都想改變世界，擁有更公平同繁榮未來嘅時代，最大嘅問題係極端進步派（即係左膠）唔夠理性，而理性嘅人唔夠激進去抗衡。）

"Progressive folk tend to wince at terms such as 'woke' and 'political correctness' but the normal public know exactly what they mean. And the battle is being fought on ground defined by the Right because sensible progressives don't want to be on the field at all."
（理性左翼從來都避免用「醒覺」同「政治正確」呢啲詞彙，因為大眾太清楚呢啲字背後嘅意思，仲已經係由右翼定義咗為（負面）戰場，有常理嘅都唔應該去打呢類泥漿摔角。）
