Hats off to Sir @gomofarah for your final attempt to qualify for the Tokyo Men's 10000m at Müller British Athletics Championship. Although you fall short of the qualifying time of 27:28.00 but I respect you for giving your best effort for this one last time.
He is the role model that I look up to since I started running. I always wanted to win the Double Gold like he did in 5000m and 10,000m in my University Track and Field Championship. After four years of taking part on it for, I won it at last in my Final Year 2018 with the Double Gold and achieved the Best Male Award for it.
Despite the age of 38, he still want to qualify for the Olympic and fight for it. He is truly a fighter 🏃🏻♂️
Thank you Sir Mo Farah for your amazing effort tonight. Hoping to see you do well in Marathon distance and continue to inspire many of us to keep fighting, keep grinding, keep digging hard to achieve more, and be the best version of ourselves.

【奧運中長跑雙金Hicham El Guerrouj的 #POWER_Training】
喜歡中長跑奧運紀錄史的朋友,應該對這位摩洛哥神人El Guerrouj有些印象,筆者想到他時,腦海所浮現的畫面是在2004年雅典奧運會的轉播上,1500m決賽的最後50m以半身之差超越美裔肯亞好手Lagat;5000m最後一圈以筆者全力跑單圈都跑不到的52.93秒高速拉開與長跑國王Bekele、馬拉松王者Kipchoge的距離,雙金入袋。同時,El Guerrouj創下的1500m(3’26”00)與1mile(3’43’13)紀錄更是保持了20年以上,至今無人能破。在那個資源匱乏的年代,我想許多人都和我一樣好奇他的訓練方式吧!
筆者從Marco Veledíaz這位摩洛哥國家級中長跑教練的分享中(大部分El Guerrouj訓練相關的文章都是他寫的),特別拉出「POWER Training」這個項目跟大家分享,同時這個訓練,也在我們先前文章中提過的紐西蘭傳奇教練Arthur Lydiard所操作的「Hill Training」有異曲同工之妙,沒錯,這是利用緩上坡(坡度5~10%)進行衝刺、綜合彈跳的高強度訓練。
您可能會想,這有什麼好講的,這不是很常聽到嗎? 其實不然,以筆者長年的觀察,真正有做到此課表精隨的台灣跑者並不多,主要是因為不了解課表操作的強度設定,以及如何置入在週期當中。接下來的內容,我們就以Arthur Lydiard所設定的長跑週期為例(因為El Guerrouj畢竟是1500、5000m的選手),結合El Guerrouj的POWER Training訓練法與各位分享。

文章的最後,我想分享的是
間歇訓練、高強度反覆跑等跑休型的訓練模式,它們都是很好的訓練「工具」,幫助我們提升心理素質、改善跑步節奏、提升乳酸閾值等等,但它畢竟是工具,無法取代節奏跑、配速持續跑、輕鬆跑等訓練在長跑中的重要性。早期我認識很多間歇訓練跑的非常好的跑者,但他們在5K以上的比賽表現都不甚理想,主要原因還是在於,長跑比賽更多比的是能量系統,如何以強大的有氧能力提供源源不絕的續航力,是每位頂尖跑者所訓練的重要目標,而適當的在週期中安排間歇及高強度訓練,則能輔助有氧訓練的不足,將跑者能力推向頂點。了解多元、多變的訓練工具,就像得到新七龍珠的精神時光屋、鬼神童子的金剛斧、幽遊白書中幻海傳幽助的靈光玉,在在都透露著年齡,喔不是,是會讓一陳不變的訓練多了很多樂趣及意想不到的效果!

After I started off running for two years, I always have a clear goal of one day to win the Double Gold in 5000M and 10000M like my idol @gomofarah did in Olympic. Glad I did it in my Final Year and also won the title "Best Sportsman Award"
Throughout the 4 years journey in UM, spending most of my time on the track, hostel, library, sports centre and went back home on the weekend for family time, sometime travel for competition. Being a lone ranger, doing my best to defend UM's Long Distance legacy after legends like @sheelasamivellu @albert_1206 Murali, followed by Amirul Syazwan, @awanrun Throughout my years in UM, I am still scouting for the next UM student to continue the legacy after me. Hoping someone can replace me next year to defend the fame.
I would like to take this opportunity to share with all the UM Athletes here, always be prepare and ready for the challenge. It's not easy but is achievable with discipline, consistency, and a clear goal on what you want and fight for it. Be more independent, ask, seek, read, look for more info to improve.
All hardwork paid off with all these achievement.
Remembered being on the track at 6am everyday, hit the bed by 11pm. Spend time reading running books, research journals, discussing with my lecturer, analysing, looking for more insights, and always the first one to volunteer to be the lab rat when comes to lab test to find out more about my ability and capability. Would like to thank everyone of you who have been with me all these while, supporting, watching my back, giving me advice, shaping me and seeing me grow from a nobody to where I am today. Truly grateful with all these support I have from all of you!
