Fucking disgusted by the match-fixing incidents. There are so many people working hard to grow the scene, yet these kids are just throwing everything away.
If you have low income as a professional player, the logical way would be to strive for better results and get better sponsorship / more prize money, not to fix matches to earn some quick bucks thinking you won't get caught. Because when you do get caught it not only hurts your own career but sets the entire region back a few years; and we're already lagging so far behind. Sponsors would be deterred from investing. And with that you get even smaller prize pools, fewer tournaments and lower pay for the players.
And to those who're still unsure of whether Arrow is guilty, the evidence against Arrow is not only that the players' girlfriends were betting on the opponent's team - it's also that Vallejos, the supposed mastermind of the matchfixing ring in PH, knew about the match's outcome too and created multiple accounts to bet on it, meaning Arrow Gaming is also one of the teams "under Vallejos' control". So at this point it'd be more helpful if the players involved could offer their public apologies regarding these incidents.
Some players and their partners might have been tempted or temporarily blinded by the monetary gains; some argue that they might've been used by the people behind the match-fixing ring, that there's a bigger agenda behind all these 322 incidents. But all these is no excuse because they committed a crime knowing the consequences. People like Vallejos are able to exploit the betting system only because the players agreed to his offers, throwing away their own integrity in the process.
Perhaps it's determined that the SEA scene should experience a crisis at this point in time, but it's also a good chance for the young players to learn their lessons the hard way.
Fuck matchfixing.
