I like turtles. I don't know much about anything, but I know aquatic animals. Growing up without cable television forced me to watch Nature on PBS whenever it was on because my parents didn't permit me to experience real nature. This is probably why I'm always intrigued about forests and jungles even though they tend to be miserable places, especially in the tropics. Luckily, I was allowed to have non-mammal pets and not only did this teach me how to love sentient beings that didn't love me back (it has prepared me for a few heart breaks- I mean, I unconditionally loved this one frog and it even bit me several times... what a reflection of my later adult romances). But what is about turtles that make people like me adore them so much? Are we just sad and lonely? Do we all have similar sentiments about how cute the baby Chinatown red eared sliders are in their little plastic containers? Those feelings still remain on me to this very day. Being near turtles just makes me happy. I kind of look like a turtle, so that makes a lot of sense. I mean, if I could animorph , I'd resemble a turtle without stretching the imagination. So you can imagine how I felt when I saw baby sea turtles for the first time. Miraculous. What a life they'll live in an open ocean. If we are so worried about the next paycheck or the next iPhone release, can you imagine the vulnerable life of a baby sea turtle?
