I have been wanting to come here for a while! Finally got (dragged) my friend to go with me 😚
The happy hour combo is only $5.50! And you get an appetizer, rice and a drink! The portion is definitely bigger than I thought! Definitely made me very happy! 😆
I got the chilled tofu, assorted tempura rice & the iced rose calpis. My friend got the seaweed salad, spicy gyu don & the iced peach calpis
The chilled tofu was really good, full of soy bean flavour when you eat it by itself, and the sauce complimented the tofu very well. We were both amazed by how wide those bonito flakes were 😆 the tempura was not bad. My favourite was the tempura onion which had two onions rings in it, inside was soft, juicy & unexpectedly sweet. I poured the sauce onto the rice and it tasted so yummy. Ended up eating more rice than I planned to. As for the drink, couldn't taste the rose flavour much but it looked soooo pretty with the two-layer colours & dried rose flakes in it 💕🌹
Next time I am coming back for their eel rice & milk tea ice cream!! Need to be hungry to order that haha

Had no idea Vietnam actually produces good chocolates until we visited Marou! The chocolate drinks here are not sweet at all and has a unique taste to it😄 Apparently the chocolate beans all taste different depending on the region it came from! It's also the first time I held an actual coco bean! Never knew they so heavy😂 The price is similar to chocolate cafes in Australia so it is quite expensive for Vietnam, however I am in love with the chilli hot chocolate☕

Following the amazing cypress aroma, we have arrived in the Lintianshan Forestry Cultural Area. It used to be the 4th largest forestry in Taiwan.During Japanese Occupation, this place was called「Molisaka 」,In Japanese, it means “a hill full of trees”.
跟著檜木的氣味,我們來到了林田山林業文化園區,這裡曾是經是台灣第四大的林場,在日治時期,日本人稱這裡叫「森坂」,這句日本話的意思,是山坡上長滿樹林
This used to be a very busy and vigorous area due to the booming forest industry. you can find the old housing made of cypress and the tracks on the ground still well preserved.
這裡曾經有著繁榮的景象,原因在於林木業的興盛,你可以發現檜木房子的老房子與火車軌道,都是當初保存下來的
The remains of the platform, train, rice shop, infirmary, and many other Japanese architectures marked a once active community lived here. The whole area had even sustained 400-500 families and a population of over 2000.
月台、火車、米店、醫務室、許多的日式建築,這些遺蹟,帶我們體驗這過去的光陰,這邊曾經聚集了四、五百個家庭,人口數更高達兩千多人

The Hualien Sugar Factory has been around for over 90 years. Except ice cream, you can also find a lot of Japanese style structures built in Japanese Occupation. They were designed for staff housing and now renovated and turned into modern hotels.
花蓮觀光糖廠已經有90幾年的歷史了,在這裡除了吃冰,還可以瞧見糖廠裡,大規模的日式建築是日治時期所留下來,以前是作為員工宿舍,如今轉變為舒適的精品旅館

Mizu-Yokan (Soft Azuki Bean Jelly) is a typical Japanese summer treat. Cold, smooth and refreshing! The recipe is EASY but to make it into 2 layers, you want to pour in the second layer just before the first layer hardens.
Kids say it looks like Minecraft. LOL

2-Layer Mizu-Yokan (Matcha and Azuki Bean Jelly)
Difficulty: EASY
Time: 20min + 2hrs cooling time
Number of Servings: 8 servings
Necessary Equipment:
18cm (7inch) square cake pan
Ingredients:
((Soft Azuki Bean Jelly))
400g (14oz.) Koshi-an (sweet Azuki red bean paste without skins)
300ml water
4g (2 tsp.) Kanten powder (agar-agar powder)
a pinch of salt
((Matcha Jelly))
1 tbsp. Matcha green tea powder
2g (1 tsp.) Kanten powder (agar-agar powder)
2 tbsp. granulated sugar
250ml water
Directions:
1. Mix water and Kanten powder (agar-agar powder) very well in a pot. Bring to a boil and boil on low for 2 minutes. *or use as directed on its package
2. Stop the heat, add Koshi-an and mix well. Add a pinch of salt to taste and mix well.
3. Pour it into a square cake pan (or any container). Then immediately start making Matcha jelly.
4. In a bowl, put Kanten powder (agar-agar powder), granulated sugar, and sift in Matcha powder. Then mix well with a spoon. Put in a pot, add water, and mix well. Bring to a boil and boil on low for 2 minutes.
5. When the skin forms (before it gets firm) pour in the Matcha jelly liquid. Leave to cool and firm at the room temperature (do not move too soon or layers will be mixed). Then put in the fridge to cool for about 2 hours.
