Farewell to the oldest bookshop in HK and I would like to share my childhood memories in Swindon with you 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
When I was in primary school, my teacher required each of us to get a Mr. Men/ Little Miss book for the lesson. As usual, I told my parent at the last moment - I need this book tomorrow. We started searching the book in different bookshops after my parent get off work, and failed to find it. We then drove to Tsim Sha Tsui, stopped right opposite to Swindon Books and my dad ran to the bookstore.
I was on the car, looking into the bookstore, wondering why he needs to run. I was hoping that he can get the book if not I will be scolded by the teacher again. Very soon, he came out with this tiny book on his hand and by the time he was on the car, the gate of the bookstore was already closing. I forgot which Mr. Men book he got, it is a blue Mr. Men. And this is what I was thinking at that moment “I want a Little Miss Book.”
While for my dad, this was the “recommended bookstore” for English reading books by his primary school teacher. I wish my primary school teacher tell me this too so that we don’t need to search the book all over Kowloon 🤭 Swindon is where generations of Hong Kong people bought their school textbook and English books.
We visited Swindon Books, the oldest bookshop in Hong Kong founded in 1918, again on its last day. From today onwards, the company will sell books through its online shop: swindonbooks.com
