明天是威尼斯“多數”歷史傳統節慶之一，海婚節，義大利文叫Festa della Sensa，這是一個在威尼斯共和國時期就流傳下來的重要儀式，可以追朔到998年5月，威尼斯元首奧賽羅（Pietro II Orseolo）帶領船艦隊出航，成功征服了亞德里亞海東岸地區，並獲得拜占庭皇帝賜予Dalmatia封號，把亞德里亞海東岸全數盡入共和國之內。
而在1177年，威尼斯共和國制定海婚節（Festa della Sensa），就是為了紀念這次奧賽羅出征亞德里亞海.
慶祝當天總督會登上華麗閃亮充滿權利象徵的黃金龍船，又叫Bucintoro(現今在威尼斯船隻博物館有複製品可供參觀)，率領遊河船隊浩浩蕩蕩航向位於潟湖與海洋交界處的麗都（Lido）島，將金戒指扔進亞德里亞海，說道：「海啊！我要與你結婚，我要你永遠都是我的！」
這樣的儀式一直到現在還繼續奉行著，所以明天
大運河在舉行遊河的時候，會有一段時間是禁止公共汽船通行的，大家可以注意！
