今年八月份一個震撼世界的體育新聞就是梅西（Lionel Messi) 離開了巴塞隆納足球隊。在記者會上可以看到連梅西本人自己都很意外會有這樣的結果，聲淚俱下地宣布分手。這本書出版是在消息正式公布之前，作者是一位具有數十年經驗的足球記者。對於幾個世界知名的職業足球隊有深入的認識，而對於巴塞隆納對更是有特殊的情感。從這數十年來的側面觀察他生動的描繪出巴塞隆納足球隊的興起與近年的困境，適逢最後這個出乎意外的「足球分手」，讓這本書更加的令我好奇。

所謂「不只是一家俱樂部」真的是非常貼切的一個形容。與其說他是一個足球隊，巴薩（Barça，巴塞隆納足球隊）更像是一個民族文化的精神出口。加泰隆尼亞特殊的獨立歷史，造就巴塞隆納特殊的城市文化。在這個一直喊著要獨立卻一直屬於西班牙一部分的歷史中，城市中建立市民社群情感的足球隊，自然就成了巴塞隆納精神的一個出口。整個城市與足球隊密不可分的關係，決定了這個足球隊跟其他職業球隊非常不同的組織結構以及文化。雖然是世界頂尖的球隊，但它就像是一個大家庭的延伸。這樣的文化塑造出及強烈的向心力，卻讓它的現代化管理以及改革相對的困難。

光是向心力還是不夠的，巴塞隆納足球隊在早期就有一位厲害的教練，約翰·克魯伊夫（ Johan Cruyff ）奠定了整個球隊球風和戰略的基礎。克魯伊夫把一種體育活動，轉化成了一種動態幾何的活動棋盤。在他的眼中球員球場和足球之間，不斷地拉出各種不同的角度，他也好像內建了快速幾何學的計算，可以看出如何創造空隙或是半路攔截。在九零年初期率領巴塞隆納足球隊連贏幾個冠軍，再加上1992巴塞隆納奧運，更是把城市的自信心推到的頂點。這樣的光環與原本家庭式的組成，擴大到整個足球隊經營的範圍。從兒童少年的訓練營，正式的球隊，整個管理階層以及全體俱樂部的成員，都形成了一個巨大的生態圈，成為巴塞隆納精神一個活生生的象徵。

而延續這個精神的人，正是從小就在少年訓練營長大的梅西。不同於一般的企業組織，球隊非常不對稱的依賴著球員們的天賦。雖然巴塞隆納足球隊出現在許多商業企管的案例當中，但其中的經理人和教練都承認其實他們能夠產生的影響是有限的。從阿根廷來訓練，安靜內斂的梅西，有著過人的體能條件以及對於球場上動態幾何的天賦異稟。他把克魯伊夫的球風和戰略更是發揚光大，在所有的比賽當中成了主要的領袖，也讓巴塞隆納贏球的責任扛在他的肩上。再加上如內馬爾，皮克等等一整票的明星球員，巴塞隆納足球隊有著輝煌的10年。但也因著這樣的輝煌，他們不像其他的球隊一般積極優化財務的經營，或是用一些科學數據的方式分析，甚至連許多的優良傳統也沒有辦法有效地紀錄與傳承。在近幾年來中球隊的財務壓力日漸增加，而國際化的趨勢當中亞洲球迷的重要性逐漸增加，根深蒂固的加泰隆尼亞文化要如何能夠被外國人理解和認識成了一個挑戰。當新冠肺炎開始時，更是讓依賴觀光客的城市與球隊更加暴露的財務的脆弱，也為今年發生的「足球分手」埋下了伏筆。

整本書的寫作方法呼應了巴塞隆納知名藝術家高第「聖家堂」的建造一般，去過人應該都有聽說這是一個蓋了百年還沒蓋完的教堂，同時也是高第這位天才建築家畢生心血的極致展現。克魯伊夫建造的像是大教堂的根基，同時也透過他的願景描繪了球團未來的走向。但是當後人承接這個建造責任，是否能夠有效地持續建造同時又保有原本的特色？在巴塞隆納足球隊的歷史中看見兩者之間的拿捏不容易。即使一個如此倚重人格特質與天賦才幹的組織，在全球化競爭的必然之下，都必須要思考如何平衡量化管理與文化特色，方能長久經營。不然他的令人讚嘆的成功，也很容易成為它未來衰敗的原因。
