#Opinion by Kan Pui-fat 簡培發|"I hereby call on heads of hiking teams to set a good example with their own conduct, and remind their teammates about taking good care of the natural environment, not cutting off flowers and plants, and not hacking trees and branches to open a trail, besides asking them to stick to the safety codes. Please hold Hong Kong’s wilderness dear - mountains and waters are sentient; trees are alive."

Eco-Resort 🌿 Saraii Village
( - English version below - )

💚 Eco-Resort in Sri Lanka X Saraii Village 🌿
First you need to climb the bamboo ladder up to the tree house. The first floor is a resting area with a long bench. The second floor is the suite. Once inside you see signs of "Save the electricity" next to the lamp, and "Save the water, every drop counts" by the bathroom sink. There is also a note with codes of conduct upon encounter with wild animals such as Do not feed and Do not make sudden loud noises. The bed is equipped with a mosquito net, and they have even prepared a locally handmade organic mosquito repellent cream. The water bottles in the room are made of glass with a metal lid and are reusable. There is no air con in the room but a big fan. To my surprise, they do not have hot water supply for shower. I ended up having to boil hot water using a kettle and shared it with my roommate - we used 1 litre of boiled water between us, definitely saved some water! It could get a bit chilly during the rainy days here in Sri Lanka.
The room is not completely closed to the outdoor. In fact, we have many visitors including wild birds, bees, cat and dogs, and squirrels are always running around on our roof. Perhaps the most surprising sight was to see a land monitor (a big lizard) climbing on top of our bathroom walls. Day and night it was a symphony of nature's music.
The restaurant sources from local organic produce, to lower carbon footprint during transportation. My friend and I have food allergy/ vegan dietary preference, and the staff have been so kind to discuss and modify the menu accordingly. Choices were limited but the efforts were very much appreciated. And of course, the drinks were served with steel straw.
The 5 nights we spent at Saraii Village had been a remarkable experience. It allowed us to feel more connected to our natural environment, while sharing our land harmoniously with other insects and animals 💖

【Blockchain startups are welcome in Taiwan】
From Switzerland to Malta, countries around the world have been racing to make a name for themselves in the blockchain space. Taiwan has made incremental, but resolute steps to maintain a progressive mindset when it comes to embracing and adopting distributed ledger technology. As it stands, there are severals factors that indicate a bright and prospective future for Taiwan's blockchain industry:
1. A Favorable Stance on Regulation. While no specific guidance has been released on the nature of cryptocurrencies, Taiwanese regulators have pledged NOT to regulate against them. Additionally, a self-regulatory organization has been setup to advocate industry best practices and codes of conduct while official legislation gets slated for release later this year.
2. A Robust Talent Pool. Taiwan has long been a frontrunner in advancing the blockchain revolution. 4 out of the Ethereum Foundation's ~20 core developers globally are actually Taiwanese; The topic is also getting increasing interest among the 10,000 computer science grads that the country's academic system churns out each year.
3. A Vibrant Community. From accelerators to media to post-ICO companies, Taiwan is already demonstrating very promising signs of an increasingly vibrant and thriving ecosystem that will surely accelerate the proliferation of the country's blockchain startups in the years to come.
For aspiring entrepreneurs looking to tap into Taiwan's growing blockchain prowess and capitalize on a nascent revolution, applications for AppWorks Accelerator #18 are now LIVE. Apply here ➡️ http://bit.ly/2P60SBK
