近年海廢問題相當受關注，中央研究院生物多樣性研究中心研究員鄭明修組成團隊，利用大數據運算分析 25 年來全球七大洋區的海漂垃圾，發現風阻效應和海流都會影響垃圾分布，從亞熱帶漸漸轉移到熱帶和極區，其中以太平洋區的海洋垃圾積累最嚴重，並且有 50% 垃圾仍持續在海上漂流，論文於 2020 年 10 月 6 日刊登於《環境研究通訊》（Environmental Research Letters）。

He’s the former deputy general of IIASA in Vienna (Int’l Institute for Applied Systems Analysis) and was a part of the beginning of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change).
