WARNING! : TODDLER FRACTURES ON SLIDES
***
Did you know that the #1 cause for toddler fractures are from little ones going down the slide with a parent/guardian?
Crazy isn't it?
The problem is that with the added weight pushing forward, if their little feet or arms get caught on any part of the slide accidentally (even if you hold them so carefully), the force pulling them forward is so much greater (then if they were alone) it twists their poor little bodies and causes their bones to break.
It comes from a place of love but is actually quite dangerous.
Isn't it shocking how little known this fact is? Please please share it with a guardian of a little you know and raise awareness on a preventable injury.

Ps. HOW DO WE TEACH OUR LITTLE ONES TO SLIDE SAFELY?
1. Always let them go by themselves.
The biggest gift we can teach our littles is to trust their bodies - when to go and when to pull back. Let your child explore. Spot them but don't be a helicopter.
And always always only one on the slide at a time.
2. Teach them to turn around
When they first learn to go down stairs or navigate scary inclines, teach them to turn around! It gives them a better control of their environment by being belly down and feet first and on a bigger faster slide. It also prevents them from flopping forward and hitting their head hard.
3. It's okay to tell them no.
If your gut or their gut is saying no to going alone because it's too big/fast to maneuver, teach them to listen to the little voice inside and don't let them go on it at all. If they are fearless, intervene if it needs intervening without judgement.
"I see you want to go on the slide. I'm so sorry but I can't let you. It's not safe for you right now, maybe when you are bigger. Would you like to play on the teeter totter or swings instead?"
Explain, give an alternate choice, practice delayed gratification.
You got this, mamas!
