In reactions to the sentence of the Apply Daily publisher Jimmy Lai, Director Christensen said in his interview with the Apple Daily that “we will continue to stand with Hong Kongers to respond to Beijing’s assaults on these freedoms and autonomy. And we will not stop calling for the release of the detained prisoners for exercising their fundamental freedoms. Looking at the situation in Hong Kong also continued to remind us how precious Taiwan’s democracy truly is.” Director Christensen also spoke about U.S.-Taiwan relations among other topics.
