Today these 3 didn’t turn up for work, not because they “ponteng” or played truant, but because their 6-month internship came to an end last Friday.
They worked, played, slogged, acted, edited, practised, learnt and forged friendships at Left Profile for a good half year.
To be honest, in the beginning, I didn’t have too high hopes (one of them was 15min late when following an artiste for the first time for a recording, another made unapproved edits to the final copy of a sponsored post) but in time, these 3 lovely young people from Temasek Polytechnic really pleasantly surprised me. They went out of their way to take initiative and give their best in whatever they did, and always with a smile and a “Can Do!” attitude. They weren’t just here to pass time and get the grade because they had to, and even if they did, they took pride and put extra effort in their work, because they cared.
And if nothing else, I hope that’s what they took away from this internship: to always give your 101% in whatever you choose to do, not just because that’s the one thing that’s going to take you far in life, but it’s also what’s going to make you feel like you’ve not lived a life wasted.
