Statement by its creators

The art students who created the statue wrote a declaration that said in part:

At this grim moment, what we need most is to remain calm and united in a single purpose. We need a powerful cementing force to strengthen our resolve: That is the Goddess of Democracy. Democracy...You are the symbol of every student in the Square, of the hearts of millions of people. ...Today, here in the People’s Square, the people’s Goddess stands tall and announces to the whole world: A consciousness of democracy has awakened among the Chinese people! The new era has begun! ...The statue of the Goddess of Democracy is made of plaster, and of course cannot stand here forever. But as the symbol of the people’s hearts, she is divine and inviolate. Let those who would sully her beware: the people will not permit this! ...On the day when real democracy and freedom come to China, we must erect another Goddess of Democracy here in the Square, monumental, towering, and permanent. We have strong faith that that day will come at last. We have still another hope: Chinese people, arise! Erect the statue of the Goddess of Democracy in your millions of hearts! Long live the people! Long live freedom! Long live democracy!"[2]

The document was signed by the eight art academies that sponsored the creation of the statue: The Central Academies of Fine Arts, Arts and Crafts, Drama, and Music; the Beijing Film Academy; the Beijing Dance Academy; the Academy of Chinese Local Stage Arts; and the Academy of Traditional Music.[2]

The entire statement was written "in rather crude calligraphy" on a long banner placed near the statue, and was read in its entirety by a female student "with a good Mandarin accent" from the Broadcasting Academy.

【The Empire】是知名製作人 陶山老師 在西雅圖的樂團，於1997年陶山 還在唸高中時組成，團員是5個和他一起長大的好朋友，五個人都會創作唱歌，也都精通多種樂器。

2003年 莫文蔚《愛死你》，2015年 謝和弦 & 王詩安《愛不需要裝乖》，當年未發行的demo都是由【The Empire】演唱。

【The Empire】的五名團員，現在都已經是音樂圈裡知名的音樂人；
除了 陶山老師 (http://www.skotsuyama.com) 在華語音樂裡有著“超強主打製造機”的名號之外；女主唱 Melissa Reese (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melissa_Reese) 也加入了世界知名樂團 “槍與玫瑰” ，在全世界巡演；男主唱 Matt Gervais 也加入了美國知名樂團 “The Head and the Heart” (http://www.theheadandtheheart.com) 在全美巡迴演出；另外主唱 Mike Gervais 也出了一張兒童音樂專輯 - “Mikey TheRadScientist” (http://mikeymikemusic.weebly.com) 在西雅圖到處為兒童做音樂表演；還有主唱 Tobias Burch 也創立了一個重金屬樂團Amort，繼續做他喜歡的音樂。

《Never the Point》這首歌是在某一年，陶山 回到西雅圖時，因為剛失戀，在飛機上很快地寫出了這一首歌曲，回到家和這五個好朋友聚會時，團員們迅速的加上更多歌詞和idea，改用歡樂的氣氛玩出了這一首歌曲，安慰了當時情傷的陶山。

所以《Never the Point》雖然是一首心碎的歌曲，但你可以聽到珍貴且深厚的友誼在裡面，這就是【The Empire】樂團的魔力！

【The Empire】，這是一個代表對音樂最純粹的愛和友情的樂團。

The Empire is Mandarin music producer, Skot Suyama’s Seattle-based band that was formed in 1997 while they were in high school. Other than Skot, whose influence as a hit-making producer is prominent within the Asian region, Melissa Reese is also part of American legend Guns n’ Roses’ world tour. While Matt Gervais is part of well-known American band The Head and the Heart currently touring across the U.S. Mike Gervais also writes children’s music, releasing an album Mikey Mike, The Rad Scientist. Tobias Burch occasionally makes funeral doom music with his band, which consists of only himself, Amort.

Never The Point was written when Skot returned to Seattle one year, and because he had recently broken up with his girlfriend (who he later married), wrote the verse and chorus for it on the plane. When he got home and met up with his five friends, the other band members quickly threw out more lyrics and ideas, to create this song and cheer up the broken-hearted Skot.
