說起《觸目驚心》，一定要認識麥克卡辛斯。
麥克卡辛斯是我云云認識的人中，對電影最淵博、也是最好記憶力的一個。在他的著作和電影中，《電影史話 》算是最具野心和最有「普世價值」的作品。他讓我們知道，在不同的社會和電影文化之下，我們都在尋找誠實和具同理心的作品，它能與我們的經驗產生共鳴。顏色、燈光和臉龐都在幫助我們明白活著的意義為何。
直至今日，我跟麥克合作過兩次，也希望跟他再度合作，因為他拍電影的取態，跟看電影的取態一樣：從過程中學習，讓靈感帶動自己發掘更多東西，然後公諸同好。

Talking about Psycho, we need to know Mark Cousins.
Mark Cousins knows and remembers more about film than anyone I have ever met. Of his many books and films, The Story of Film is the most ambitious and the most “ universal “ . He shows us how, in our many different societies and film cultures we are all looking for integrity , compassion , a story true to our experience. And colour, light and faces that help us understand what it means to be alive.
I have (so far) made two films with Mark and look forward to many more together, because the way he approaches making a film is the same as the way he watches a film: to learn from the process, to enjoy where an idea can take you and the discoveries to be shared.
Here he tells us what he finds in Psycho and asks (director) Gus Van Sant what making this film means to Gus.
