❌ Tuy nhiên, nếu như sử dụng không hợp lí và hiểu sai nghĩa hoặc dùng không đúng hoàn cảnh thì lại vô cùng ảnh hưởng đến kết quả bài nói của bạn.
Vì vậy, hôm nay cô gửi các bạn file tổng hợp idioms sử dụng cho IELTS Speaking này. List thành ngữ dưới đây đã được giải nghĩa cụ thể cả bằng tiếng Anh & tiếng Việt, kèm ví dụ minh họa rõ ràng, chi tiết nhằm giúp các bạn vận dụng tốt hơn vào bài thi IELTS Speaking cũng như trong Giao tiếp Tiếng Anh.
A drop in the ocean – every small part of something much bigger. (Hạt muối bỏ bể không thấm vào đâu)
E.g: Just learning idioms is a drop in the ocean when it comes to preparing for the
Ace – to do well. Usually used relating to a test, competition, something with a score, or a clear winner or loser. (làm rất xuất sắc)
E.g: He aced the history test. He is an ace pitcher/batter/tennis player.
A hot potato – a controversial topic (vấn đề khó giải quyết, vấn đề nan giải)
E.g: Abortion and capital punishment are hot potatoes in my country at the moment.
A piece of cake – very easy. (dễ ợt)
E.g: Getting a band 6 in the speaking test will be a piece of cake.
antsy – getting restless. (sốt ruột, hiếu động, không yên được)
Eg: The guys are getting antsy, we need to go somewhere else before they get too noisy.
A blessing in disguise – something that seems bad or unlucky at first, but results in something good happening later (trong cái rủi có cái may) E.g: Losing that job was a blessing in disguise really.
All in the same boat – in the same difficult situation as someone else (cùng chung cảnh ngộ)
E.g: None of us has any money, so we’re all in the same boat.
A penny for your thoughts – ask someone who is being very quiet what they are thinking about (bạn đang mải mê nghĩ chuyện gì vậy?)
E.g: For several minutes they sat silently, then finally she looked at him and said, “
A penny for your thoughts, Walter.”
Against the clock – do something as fast as possible and try to finish it before a certain time. (cật lực, chạy đua với thời gian)
E.g: With her term paper due on Monday, she was racing against the clock to finish it .
At all costs– do everything you can to achieve/succeed something (bằng moi giá)
E.g: My dream is to become a successful businessman and I will work hard for it AT ALL COSTS
At the drop of a hat - immediately; instantly (trong tích tắc, ngay lập tức) E.g: If you need help, just call on me. I can come at the drop of a hat.
And then some – and even more; and more than has been mentioned. (nhiều hơn thế)
E.g: It looked like 20,000 people and then some were crowded into the stadium. I nvestors in the business got their money back and then some.
A big fan of something: to really like something: thích cái gì E.g: I am a big fan of these types of sharing dishes.
Bump into – to meet someone by chance (tình cờ gặp ai đó)
E.g: I bumped into my old friends at the seminar for education officials.
