Keep your Eyes on Jesus!

“Now he said this, signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. When he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.” Then Peter, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple whom Jesus loved, the one who had also leaned on Jesus’ breast at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray You?” Peter seeing him, said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”” (John‬ ‭21:19-22‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Sometimes we become nosy Christians, looking around at others who seem to be more blessed, more loved, more favored by God than we are.

We ignorantly ask Jesus, “What about this person?” when it’s none of our business.

Everyone has their own walk with the Lord, and you can’t compare your walk with someone else’s—that’s just a recipe for unhappiness.

There’s always someone who’s going to seem more blessed than you, but you didn’t see the seasons of preparation that he or she went through with the Lord in private.

Why compare your new beginning with someone else’s greatly increased latter end? It’s two different seasons—of course it’s going to look different!

What’s the common denominator between some of these men of God in the Bible: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, Elisha, John the Baptist, Jesus Christ and the apostle Paul.

All of them had seasons of obscurity where they were trained and prepared by God—oftentimes through great hardship, before their public ministries.

You see a fellow Christian living the blessed life now, but you didn’t see when he or she was suffering, crying, praying with face to the ground, patiently waiting for the Lord’s deliverance.

Don’t envy anyone but you can learn lessons from Christians who have gone through hard times and triumphed through Jesus’ faithfulness.

Peter didn’t need to envy John. On the day that Jesus poured out the Holy Spirit, Peter preached a powerful sermon and three thousand souls were saved that day.
John also had a great destiny, being the only one of the apostles who didn’t die a martyr’s death.
He also wrote the Book of Revelation, recording all the crucial end times prophecies and visions for us.

God surely has a good plan for your life, and you only need to keep your eyes on Jesus—follow Him through His Spirit who lives in you.

Today if you’re feeling discouraged from seeing everyone around you having it better than you, see Jesus telling you, “What is that to you? You follow me.”
Your time of promotion and lifting to a broader place of abundant life is surely ahead of you!

The Key to Seeing More Miracles

“They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and prayer. Fear came on every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.” (Acts‬ ‭2:42-43‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

What was the secret of the apostles that allowed their ministry to see so many miracles?

This secret is linked to why some local churches today see almost no miracles at all, whereas others see miracles on a regular basis. I’m blessed to attend a local church where miracle healings happens quite frequently.

The secret of the apostles is what they taught about:

“With great power, the apostles gave their testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Great grace was on them all.” (Acts‬ ‭4:33‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Having freshly witnessed Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection, naturally their preaching was all about that and how through the cross we can receive forgiveness of sins by faith in Jesus.

In other words, the apostles proclaimed Jesus’ finished work at the cross. This is message is the Gospel and hearing it causes faith to come.

Study Peter’s sermon in Acts 3. That’s the kind of sermon the apostles preached. Here’s part of it:

“When Peter saw it, he responded to the people, “You men of Israel, why do you marvel at this man? Why do you fasten your eyes on us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him walk? The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up, and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had determined to release him. But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, to which we are witnesses. By faith in his name, his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which is through him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.” (Acts‬ ‭3:12-16‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Can you see that it’s a message filled with Jesus and His finished work at the cross? It proclaims salvation by faith in Jesus alone, apart from the works of the Law.

Miracles happen through the hearing of faith, not through the works of the Law.

Churches that teach a mixture of Law and Grace rob their congregations of faith. As long as you have to obey the Law before you get blessed, no one can have that full assurance of faith needed to receive miracles.

Miracles will erupt in your life as you release your faith by speaking and believing that you have it.
