Scam 101
This year, 2020, it has been a tough and challenging year for all of us because of Covid19 crisis. Each of us is impacted in some ways. We need to understand that we all face the same storm, but we all are not on the same boat.
Some might have a better advantage than the others and some may struggle to survive. Covid19 has led to a dramatic loss of human lives, health, food systems and the world of work worldwide. The economic and social disruption is worrying.
This difficult times has shown us how fragile life is and one of the main things in life that we need to survive, unfortunately, is having money. All of us need money to provide the necessities to live.
During these rough times, many unethical parties are also waiting to take advantage of unsuspecting individuals who also need money. This parties we called scammers. They capitalise on people's hardship and fears to manipulate other vulnerable people.
Be aware that scammers are also sophisticated with their tactics and have many types of schemes and businesses that they disguised to look legitimate and interesting, but their motive is to swindle your hard-earned money and take advantage of your situation. Once they get what they want, they will vanish.
This is crucial, I urge my family, friends and followers to be more vigilant when making business and investments decisions to not fall into their lies and fake promises.
How to detect this unscrupulous parties
❗Always do your research first hand (information is everywhere, check thoroughly) and don't quickly jump into the bandwagon even if everyone around you is doing it
❗Investment with guaranteed profit (this is a red flag - no such thing as guaranteed, if yes, this is a very dangerous business and potentially a fake one)
❗Too good to be true business model and promises (be realistic)
❗Business or investment that lures you to join and give you 'offer of a lifetime or limited time'
❗Huge returns or profits (even better than the financial institutions? - doesn't make sense)
❗Pyramid schemes, based on enrolments/recruit people - people are the product (if they are pushing this agenda, you know you are the product = scam)
❗MLM business that is a cover-up illegal pyramid scheme (they said they are MLM and legal) - please check this difference in their business model
❗Brands that source for brand ambassadors and said everything is free, but have to pay for the shipping fee (which cost a lot) at the end and sometime unreasonable commission schemes (this is becoming more
and more, beware influencers)
❗Macau Scam - impersonate authorities/trusted officials to get a large sum of money (please check this carefully when you get any phone calls)
❗Love Scam - contact you with fake profiles (too good to be true profile), praise, engaged and try to strike a relationship with you, before they commit fraud in the end)
❗Many more - debt collection, settlement, relief, mortgage, imposter, oil scam, apps scam, religious and charity scam, social media and online business scam, grandparents scam, lottery or prize scams, wire or money transfer fraud and more - stay vigilant
Ways to avoid being scammed
✅Always deal with individuals, entities that are registered, licensed or trustworthy (depends on the type of business, check with the relevant authorities/parties) - do your background check
✅Ask questions and request for important information. They shouldn't be easily triggered and emotional
✅Check with relevant authorities before investing or depositing any monies even it is a small amount
✅Don't be pressured or rushed by anyone. Find time to do your research when you want to get yourself into something
✅Be sceptical if there's no proper documentation in writing and if you are not certain with the legality
✅Beware of investments and making money opportunity over the internet. This is their playground
✅Secure your personal information. Don't leak them to untrusted parties
✅Keep copies of all documents or writings when you agree with any parties
I have seen so many individuals and groups of people around me that have been scammed and in businesses that are scamming people.
Let us all exercise extreme caution when being offered something lucrative and being promised heavens on earth. If someone is promising you quick and so much money (rich), no risk, and everything seems perfect/too good to be true, please be careful. Just remember, the faster and easy you get something better, the faster and easy you get something worse.
Report and file a complaint to relevant authorities if you know any scammers or has been a victim of scams.
Protect yourself from being a victim of a scam. It's better to have little or enough money but it belongs to us than having a lot of money that isn't ours, taking from unfortunate people and scamming people for a living. Remember this.

For Cosplayers who want to perform & sell overseas please take note about having proper license/ permit before going.
Also don't support that guy's event anymore, simple as that. No one would be in a mess if it wasn't for him trying to skim corners.
[Awareness Post for ppl who perform Overseas]
Please check with the event organiser whether they have applied the permit for u to perform in their country despite u r getting paid or not.
Otherwise, you might end up in JAIL...
Heard that u should get a performer pass/visa from the respective embassies.
PLS DO CHECK BEFORE YOU GO OVERSEAS TO PERFORM.
I would not want anyone to have a same experience I had.
I’m not gonna go too much in details but just to share my experience.
HOBBY TURNED INTO A NIGHTMARE.
-Day1, 23 MAR 2019-
Right after my performance, lots of immigration officers raid the event.
Was handcuffed without even knowing what happened.
In the end only the foreigners got arrested.
Total 11 of us were captured in Malaysia.(5JPN, 3SIN, 2THA, 1HKG)
Informed that we have no proper permit to perform and the permit suppose to be prepared by the organiser.
None of us were aware of it. It’s just a hobby and I wasn’t paid for this.
We transferred to immigration room and set on the floor waiting for the officers to fill up some forms. They confiscated our handphone and there is no way for us to contact outside world.
(We managed to use our phone to contact our family right before we hand it out)
We were only allowed to have 1 top(shirt), 1 bottom (pants) and of course bra and underwear for female and that’s it. The rest are kept by them.
We were put into a cubicle, no windows, all tgt abt 30 females. We slept on a concrete floor squeezing each other, the room were super packed with humans. There were even baby, kids and some pregnant women too.
-Day2, 24 MAR 2019-
Woke up with back pain sleeping on the concrete floor and realised Pee, Poop, shower, wash clothes all in 1 place with just 1 tab. Luckily it’s clean water and no bugs in that area. We had basic 3 meals in a day (8am, 2pm, 8pm) in the same cubicle with same 30pax+ No cutleries, eat with hands.
Sunday is off day for immigration therefore we had no help.
-Day3, 25 MAR 2019-
We were called up to give statement, to tell the officers what exactly happened to us and they told us that they are trying to help us get out. Took all of our finger prints, pictures etc... As of like we are criminals...
-Day4, 26 MAR 2019-
Seems like u can meet up with ur family/ relative on TUE and THU and I met my auntie and she told me to stay strong and everyone is backing us up, family, friends, Lawyers, each country’s embassy etc...
We all stayed strong. But we still do not know when we will be released. No information given.
-Day5, 27 MAR 2019-
Nothing much happened. What we usually do whole day? Ppl in the jail were nice to everyone. Some of them from Indonesia, Uzbekistan, Vietnam etc... I believe they are not criminals but they had their own visa issue for entering/staying in Malaysia. They told us that other jail is worse. Although we had communication difficulties, we all become like friends, as we all share same toilet and sometimes they come in to pee or poop while u r showering. Playing with the baby and 2 yrs old kids made us smile.
-Day6, 28 MAR 2019-
My mom just came back from HK to SG, and she came to M’sia immediately to see me. We chatted through a fence which we can only touch each other’s finger. But it’s a relief for both of us and she definitely gave me power knowing that Lawyers and embassies are backing us up. And they are doing their best. We prayed hard that we can get out ASAP. Before we are mentally broken down.
-Day7, 29 MAR 2019-
Around 10am, We had good news that we can be released only by the embassy consulate.
We (the detainees) were over joyed and hugged each other with tears, although we wore same underwear for 7days and clothes for that matter.
All of the above is just my personal experience and thoughts. There are so much more things to tell but this is just a summery.
There are so much friendship and helping each other among the 11 ppl who were detained this time and tough situation that we all went through tgt.
Not only the detainees but our family, friends, Lawyers, our country embassy representatives are all involved trying their best to get us out from the situation ASAP!
Idk how much more I can thank everyone.
Especially my Mom and Dad although both of them were overseas for work, BFFs (and his mom), my girls (aka group members), Personal Lawyer, and Japan embassy rep.
I would never want to experience this in my life. It’s too scary, stressful and definitely it left a scar.
It is an unforgettable and unforgivable incidence that none of the innocent performer should experience.
Please be careful, always have to check the necessary documentation for foreigner, when u r overseas.
DON’T GIVE UP YOUR PASSION.
Cheers.

What she said...
[Updated with additional information]
There is so much misinformation out there about the Trump administration's new "zero tolerance" policy that requires criminal prosecution, which then warrants the separating of parents and children at the southern border. Before responding to a post defending this policy, please do your research...As a professor at a local Cal State, I research and write about these issues, so here, I wrote the following to make it easier for you:
Myth: This is not a new policy and was practiced under Obama and Clinton - FALSE. The policy to separate parents and children is new and was instituted on 4/6/2018. It was the “brainchild” of John Kelly and Stephen Miller to serve as a deterrent for undocumented immigration, and some allege to be used as a bargaining chip. The policy was approved by Trump, and adopted by Sessions. Prior administrations detained migrant families, but didn’t have a practice of forcibly separating parents from their children unless the adults were deemed unfit. https://www.justice.gov/…/press-rele…/file/1049751/download…
Myth: This is the only way to deter undocumented immigration - FALSE. Annual trends show that arrests for undocumented entry are at a 46 year low, and undocumented crossings dropped in 2007, with a net loss (more people leaving than arriving). Deportations have increased steadily though (spiking in 1996 and more recently), because several laws that were passed since 1996 have made it more difficult to gain legal status for people already here, and thus increased their deportations (I address this later under the myth that it's the Democrats' fault). What we mostly have now are people crossing the border illegally because they've already been hired by a US company, or because they are seeking political asylum. Economic migrants come to this country because our country has kept the demand going. But again, many of these people impacted by Trump's "zero tolerance" policy appear to be political asylum-seekers. https://www.npr.org/…/arrests-for-illegal-border-crossings-…
Myth: Most of the people coming across the border are just trying to take advantage of our country by taking our jobs - FALSE. Most of the parents who have been impacted by Trump's "zero tolerance" policy have presented themselves as political asylum-seekers at a U.S. port-of-entry, from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Rather than processing their claims, according to witness accounts, it appears as though they have been taken into custody on the spot and had their children ripped from their arms. The ACLU alleges that this practice violates the US Asylum Act, and the UN asserts that it violates the UN Treaty on the State of Refugees, one of the few treaties the US has ratified. The ACLU asserts that this policy is an illegal act on the part of the United States government, not to mention morally and ethically reprehensible. https://www.nytimes.com/…/meatpackers-profits-hinge-on-pool…
Myth: We're a country that respects the Rule of Law, and if people break the law, this is what they get - FALSE. We are a country that has an above-ground system of immigration and an underground system. Our government (under both parties) has always been aware that US companies recruit workers in the poorest parts of Mexico for cheap labor, and ICE (and its predecessor INS) has looked the other way because this underground economy benefits our country to the tune of billions of dollars annually. Thus, even though many of the people crossing the border now are asylum-seekers, those who are economic migrants (migrant workers) likely have been recruited here to do jobs Americans will not do. https://www.upi.com/…/Donald-Trumps-wall-ign…/2621477498203/
Myth: The children have to be separated from their parents because the parents must be arrested and it would be cruel to put children in jail with their parents - FALSE. First, in the case of economic migrants crossing the border illegally, criminal prosecution has not been the legal norm, and families have historically been kept together at all cost. Also, crossing the border without documentation is typically a misdemeanor not requiring arrest, but rather has been handled in a civil proceeding. Additionally, parents who have been detained have historically been detained with their children in ICE "family residential centers," again, for civil processing. The Trump administration's shift in policy is for political purposes only, not legal ones. See p. 18: https://www.aclu.org/…/ms-l-v-ice-plaintiffs-opposition-def…
Myth: We have rampant fraud in our asylum process, the proof of which is the significant increase we have in the number of people applying for asylum. FALSE. The increase in asylum seekers is a direct result of the increase in civil conflict and violence across the globe. While some people may believe that we shouldn't allow any refugees into our country because "it's not our problem," neither our current asylum law, nor our ideological foundation as a country support such an isolationist approach. There is very little evidence to support Sessions' claim that abuse of our asylum-seeking policies is rampant. Also, what Sessions failed to mention is that the majority of asylum seekers are from China, not South of the border. Here is a very fair and balanced assessment of his statements: http://www.politifact.com/…/jeff-sessions-claim-about-asyl…/
Myth: The Democrats caused this, "it's their law." FALSE. Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats caused this, the Trump administration did (although the Republicans could fix this today, and have refused). I believe what this myth refers to is the passage of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, which were both passed under Clinton in 1996. These laws essentially made unauthorized entry into the US a crime (typically a misdemeanor for first-time offenders), but under both Republicans and Democrats, these cases were handled through civil deportation proceedings, not a criminal proceeding, which did not require separation. And again, even in cases where detainment was required, families were always kept together in family residential centers, unless the parents were deemed unfit (as mentioned above). Thus, Trump's assertion that he hates this policy but has no choice but to separate the parents from their children, because the Democrats "gave us this law" is false and nothing more than propaganda designed to compel negotiation on bad policy. https://www.independent.co.uk/…/trump-democrats-us-border-m…
Myth: The parents and children will be reunited shortly, once the parents' court cases are finalized. FALSE. Criminal court is a vastly different beast than civil court proceedings. Also, the children are being processed as unaccompanied minors ("unaccompanied alien children"), which typically means they are in the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), which is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHS). Under normal circumstances when a child enters the country without his or her parent, ORR attempts to locate a family member within a few weeks, and the child is then released to a family member, or if a family member cannot be located, the child is placed in a residential center (anywhere in the country), or in some cases, foster care. Prior to Trump's new policy, ORR was operating at 95% capacity, and they simply cannot effectively manage the influx of 2000+ children, some as young as 4 months old. Also, keep in mind, these are not unaccompanied minor children, they have parents. There is great legal ambiguity on how and even whether the parents will get their children back because we are in uncharted territory right now. According to the ACLU lawsuit (see below), there is currently no easy vehicle for reuniting parents with their children. Additionally, according to a May 2018 report, numerous cases of verbal, physical and sexual abuse were found to have occurred in these residential centers. The report covers earlier years, but I'm including it here to highlight that there are problems with keeping children in large residential centers, even if they are run efficiently and supervised by licensed social workers and counselors. There is an abundance of empirical evidence that shows that residential care, even highly efficient ones, are no place for children, particularly very young ones: https://www.aclu.org/…/aclu-obtains-documents-showing-wides…
Myth: This policy is legal. LIKELY FALSE. The ACLU filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration on 5/6/18, and a recent court ruling denied the government's motion to dismiss the suit. The judge deciding the case stated that the Trump Administration’s policy is "brutal, offensive, and fails to comport with traditional notions of fair play and decency." The case is moving forward because it was deemed to have legal merit. https://www.bloomberg.com/…/aclu-suit-over-child-separation…
