To Freedom / You and your mother tongue

#Taiwan is something of a melting pot in terms of language. We’ve been working hard to reduce the historical stigma attached to some of these languages and to ensure that they are not lost to future generations. New languages are also being carried to our shores by new arrivals, creating a linguistically dynamic young generation of bilingual or multilingual children and young adults. These young people benefit from the ability to engage in intergenerational communication, important in the preservation of cultural identity and for a more cohesive society.

We recently featured an Indonesian teacher in Taiwan--a new arrival--and one of her students--part of this multilingual younger generation--in “To Freedom,” our promotional short to mark the #UNGA76. They tell the story of Taiwan’s respect for all its languages when they say:

“Here, the natural languages of Taiwan’s inherent ethnic groups are official languages. Regardless of what language you speak at home, you’ll continue to be taught it at school. I don’t need a translator to talk with my grandparents.”

If the UN states part of its mission as encouraging countries around the world to respect the rights of their people, Taiwan's vision of global partnership can serve as a valuable reference.

What do you think about singledom? Are you a little afraid of or anxious? Sometimes you feel free but sometimes feel worthless? Being single doesn’t mean you’re not good enough, instead, meaning that it’s not quite ready yet. No matter you’re single or not, you’re always worthy of love! Get your to-do list down ASAP when you’re single, and “debug” your life! Hope you guys become mature first and then take off the single, bless others and found families.

記得大一北上讀大學時，我常因想家、想爸媽偷偷在被子裡哭，當時D床的雲林女孩常攀越床板爬來C床，輕聲溫柔地放了包衛生紙在我的枕頭邊。外宿的記憶隨著日子更迭，默默堆疊；隨時年紀增長，越發增多。

到底一個人住好，還是兩人或以上住好？

過往我一直是喜歡與人相處的陽光個性，但近日搬入女生宿舍後，我才發現自己多麼需要獨處與安靜！！！面對每日生活、休閒、作息、喜好的關切與目光，真讓我好想轉身縮進後方的殼，但一回眸才發現背後空蕩蕩。

然而，兩個人大多時候比一個人好的，因為人本來就需要團隊、需要扶持、需要愛與接納，很開心擁有熱情的新室友們，希望北漂的孩子都跟我們一樣找到好室友、好房子，最最最重要能擁有平安與歸屬感的「家」！

補充：跟新室友們在家裡錄Podcast回音很大，加上天氣熱開了冷氣，真的有點吵，但內容保證輕鬆好笑！希望大家聽完心情愉悅！

When I, as a freshman, flew the nest, I often hid and cried in the quilt due to homesick. The girl from Yunlin often climbed over the bed board, putting down tissue gently beside my pillow.
Memories of living in the dorm are more and more.
Living alone or living with others, which one is better?

I acknowledged myself as a people person in the past. But recently I moved into the new house, I found that how much I needed to stay alone!!!
Facing interpersonal pressure,I want to escape my everyday life, but looking back I find nothing.

However, being with others is usually better than being alone. We all need team, supports, love and acceptance. So glad that I have new roommates.
Hope you, flying the nest like us, find good roommates and house, and most importantly, have peace and "home"!

p.s. Echoes of podcasting are loud in the house. In addition we turn on the air conditioner, so it's noisy a lot, but the content is funny. You have my word! Hope you are pleased after listening!

愛也是「0.5+0.5=1」我們學習給予、付出，甚至彼此犧牲，所以才完全。

What do you think about marriage? Consider age and appearance first? House and cars go second? Being in a relationship when you're in need, and whenever you disagree with each other, you end it?
Is love a kind of feeling or love can be a decision?
In fact, marriage is not a contract but a covenant. Contract states and explains a formal agreement between two different people. If one doesn't perform, the other can terminate.
On the other hand, covenant is an affectionate promise. It means that no matter what happens, we love each other forever and weather the storm together.
Love is "1+1 greater than 2", meaning that I don't need to be with you, but my life will be better because of you.
Love is also "0.5+0.5=1". We learn giving and sacrificing, so that we can fulfill each other.
It's amazing to get acquainted with Hibbii online. She's extremely enthusiastic, positive, thoughtful and attentive.
So grateful she comes and shares her real story as fiancée of her first love! (She has been a wife when the program aired)
You might not know much about that, but you should believe that you're beloved all the time!
