One of the greatest vocalists in the world graced the Taipei stage on Friday, when soprano Renee Fleming gave a performance at the National Concert Hall. I was one of the lucky audience members who heard various selections from Strauss, Brahms, Puccini (she called “O mio babbino caro” perhaps the greatest aria for the soprano voice), and other composers. An incredibly versatile performer who sings jazz and pop music in addition to opera, Ms. Fleming told me that she is headed for the Broadway stage in Spring 2018. She will be one of the stars of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “Carousel.” I’m a big fan of Broadway, so I can’t wait to hear her sing one of the most famous solos from that show, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Thank you for coming to Taiwan to perform, Ms. Fleming!...km
