What an incredible initiative! #Foodforfighters organisation, supported by UNPD put together among 7 of Bangkok`s most notable Chefs to cook over 700 meals in one morning to offer those affected by COVID - 19, their favourite comfort meals!

Although today was dedicated to the help of such talented chefs, #Foodforfighters are serving up multiple thousands of meals EVERYDAY! The meals are distributed to field hospitals, slum communities, jails and other communities suffering adverse health and extreme hardship under the pandemic.

The organisation work alongside farmers, volunteers and sponsors who can donate and contribute whatever resources they have to help. This morning was filled with an infectious air of good will and determination. The Chefs put in their valuable time and culinary skills to donate, not any casual streetside meal but one with a touch of their signature gourmet. These dishes will not only fill bellies but also so many hearts ❤️.

Suvarnabhumi (BKK)

Đây có lẽ là tên sân bay nhiều người đọc nhầm nhất ở Đông Nam Á. Chữ này đọc là Xu-goa-na-bum chứ không phải Xu-va-na-bu-mi hay Xu-vát-na-bum. Trong tiếng Thái, từ Suvarnabhumi có nghĩa là Vùng đất Vàng, vùng đất được nói đến nhiều trong lịch sử Phật giáo. Nhiều giả thuyết nói nó có thể nằm ở phía đông sông Hằng hoặc cũng có thể ở đâu đó ở Đông Nam Á. Suvarna là Vàng còn bhumi là vùng đất. Tên gọi của sân bay được đặt bởi Vua Rama IX của vương triều Chakri là Quốc vương Thái Lan Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Vị trí được lựa chọn xây dựng sân bay trước đây là 1 vùng đầm lầy có tên là Đầm lầy Rắn Hổ mang ở huyện Bang Phli của tỉnh Samut Prakarn, các quận Lat Krabang, Bang Na và Prawet của Bangkok, nằm cách trung tâm thủ đô 25km về phía Đông Nam.

Sân bay đi vào hoạt động từ cuối tháng 9 năm 2006, không lâu sau cuộc đảo chính cựu thủ tướng Thái Lan Thaksin Shinawatra. Sân bay Suvarnabhumi thừa hưởng mã IATA là BKK từ sân bay quốc tế Don Muang. Sân bay tiếp nhận hơn 63 triệu hành khách vào năm 2018, tiếp nhận hầu hết các chuyến bay của các hãng hàng không quốc tế tới Bangkok và là căn cứ của các hãng hàng không nội địa như Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways hay Vietjet Thailand.

Don Muang (DMK)

Don Muang là sân bay quốc tế chính của Bangkok từ năm 1924 tới năm 2006, tức là 82 năm khi sân bay Suvarnabhumi được khánh thành.

Tên sân bay cũng có điều thú vị. Don có nghĩa là khu vực đất cao hơn xung quanh, giống như “đồi” trong tiếng Việt. Ở đây có nhiều voi gọi là đồi voi. Sau này nhiều chim diều hâu hay về tụ ở đây nên gọi là đồi diều hâu. Muang ở đây có nghĩa là thành phố. Nói nôm na Don Muang có thể hiểu là khu đồi trong thành phố.

Sân bay vốn là một căn cứ của Không quân Hoàng gia Thái Lan từ năm 1914, mở cửa cho các chuyến bay thương mại từ năm 1924 và là một trong những sân bay lâu đời nhất trên thế giới vẫn đang được khai thác. Từ năm 2006, sân bay được đổi sang mã IATA là DMK và tạm dừng hoạt động khi Bangkok có sân bay mới Suvarnabhumi. Đến cuối tháng 3/2007, sân bay Don Muang mở cửa trở lại để phục vụ 1 số chuyến bay nội địa.

Sân bay hiện có một nhà ga quốc tế và một nhà ga nội địa, đã phục vụ hơn 40 triệu lượt hành khách trong năm 2018, vượt so với công suất thiết kế khoảng 30 triệu khách/năm. Đây là căn cứ chính của các hãng hàng không giá rẻ như Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air hay Nok Air.
