【Lesson #2 - Don't fall in love with your product】
Anyone who’s read Eric Ries’ “The Lean Startup” (and even those that didn’t) is all too familiar with the concept of a minimum viable product (MVP)—except when they’re not. Oftentimes through a perfectionist attitude or perhaps inherent fear of failure, founders create products that are more viable than minimum. That was the experience for Kevin Wong, the Co-founder/CEO of Origami Labs (AW#15), when they were creating their first product, a smart ring called ORII. According to Kevin, it was because he had such an attachment to this vision in his head, and anything short of that vision just felt like a concession. He’s since learned to accept a more iterative approach to product development and applying that lesson to his current product OFLO which enables smartphone-level comms in an audio wearable designed specifically for frontline staff.
—-
After establishing Origami Labs in 2015, we spent several years in R&D to create our first product ORII, a voice assistant smart ring that uses bone conduction technology to allow users to check new messages on their phone, control music, and complete other everyday tasks by simply holding your finger to your ear. This simple, intuitive finger-to-ear motion was what we loved so much about the product and what made it so easy to catch on and talk about. Our kickstarter campaign blew way past the initial goal in a matter of weeks. We became the first HK startup to place in TechCrunch Battlefield’s top 5. Press coverage was coming at us left and right and orders were coming from over 50 different countries. A lot of that, however, turned out to be false momentum.
In retrospect, ORII probably should have never been able to sell as well as it did. A lot of founders through sheer passion, grit, and willpower alone can build up early traction without breaking a sweat. But can someone 2 to 3 degrees away from them sell their product? That’s where founders really get measured in success. At some point, the product should be able to stand on its own two feet and speak for itself.
ORII could not. That elegant finger-to-ear motion that we were so enamored with ultimately became its achilles heel. It turns out, in 95 percent of the scenarios, you wouldn’t want to lift your hand to your head, especially in this wireless/hands-free age. We effectively fell in love with our product and stopped really listening to our customers. We thought it was perfect and became blind to any signals that said otherwise. I still remember going to visit Eric Migicovsky, YC partner and founder of Pebble watch, at his house. I showed him some of our early prototypes and he basically said “that’s cool, but it won’t work,” drawing upon his own experiences with hardware. Sure enough, after the initial media frenzy died down, orders started to visibly slow down. The final nail in the coffin was when Amazon released the echo loop (smart ring tied to Alexa), which mimicked our product feature-for-feature but better in every way.
As a founder, what you want to build makes so much sense. You see it with so much clarity that it’s almost unfathomable why someone wouldn’t understand. But innovation has to be an iterative process, as the market can only accept so much change. You need to put out a product that’s in some way necessary for people today, that gets some people using it on a frequent basis, and only from there can you practically grow it into something that you envisioned.
Applications for AW#22 are now open to founders targeting SEA, AI/IoT, or Blockchain/Defi -> https://bit.ly/36v9k8D

.
1. Shel
PawPrint Art 👍👍

See you on Friday 9pm
#ShelFridayArtLive

Received kind reminders from friend, asking whether I will share only simple pastel artwork during free IG live broadcast as there are teachers who organise paid workshops / courses 💡 I did think about this before, hope to share my thoughts with you all~
.
1. Is Shel a pastel nagomi art tutor? Do you run paid workshops?
It is mentioned at the beginning of each of my IG live that I am not a professional art teacher. There's still a lot to learn 💪 IG live simply created a platform for pastel-lovers from all over the world to gather and enjoy art. So much talent from the audience!!! I am grateful to learn from you all🥰 Just to avoid any misunderstanding: I am NOT a certified pastel nagomi art teacher. I came across pastel art last summer and fell in love with it❤️
As for paid workshops, I recently did some (⚠️but Jul workshops are on hold due to covid-19 situation in local community). If you like my artwork and don't mind that I don't have a certificate, then really look forward to seeing you in our workshop 🇭🇰☺️ (face-to-face workshops in HK only, sorry friends from overseas...)
.
2. For free IG live, do easy art pieces only?
The one we will draw on Friday may seems difficult, but I only experimented with basic techniques (😝 welcome to see for yourself during our IG live👀). Moreover, it is impossible to tutor individually, I can't even see your artwork, so it's very different from paid courses. You may see some amazing drawings by "students" in Shel Friday Art Live artwork collection (so wonderful that I actually can't draw with such perfection😍 adore!!), but I have nothing to do with that. They are skilful / talented / practise a lot, and therefore are amazing even before viewing my IG live for sure🙏 I also encourage first-timers, if you guys get a taste of how relaxing and enjoyable pastel art is, please don't hesitate to learn from professional teachers, especially for JPHAA pastel nagomi art pieces, I can't teach those without a license.
.
3. I wanna design my own art pieces too, where to start?
Inspiration is all around us! Observe beautiful things in your surrounding, pay attention to colours that match with each other, look for nice proportion in photography etc 📷 no pressure at all, just try to draw, if it doesn't work, observe and draw again 🎨 like here I prepared a drawing of a cup of hot chocolate (the colour does look like coffee I admit) from a Japanese-style cafe in HK🌸☕️ lovely ceramic cup isn't it? That's how art pieces are created. Even when drawing the same topic, everyone has a different perspective, different colour combinations🌟
.
Special thanks to friend from Singapore🇸🇬 Teacher Gladys from SG has pastel courses with latte theme☕️ Her coffee drawings are soooo delicate, the bubbles in milk foam are very realistic😍 please check out PawPrint Art 👍👍

I don't remember which library I picked up "music writing" from which library in chula, but I remember this is a book that added an important compound into my brain and forged. One thought in my head until today, that thought is still going anywhere.
The idea that is " many more
Along with the feeling that our little hands can write the world.
I have been listening to "Chaliang" since elementary school. Milk hasn't set (now). I still). I understand. When I was in University, the band disband disband has left just a story on the wood sheet for me. A lot of music never old. Those are written from the end of brother chik's pen - prapha chon Sara non
Reading this book makes you see the idea behind each song, and even more you see the author.
For me, whether brother chik wrote a song, wrote a book or made a movie, all he tried to do is ask people to try to look at the corner with more than just the corner.
See the world and your heart will be expansive.
Many more (many more that we don't know. We see it. Just in case we haven't seen it yet), Hibiscus Tree and blind (blind, but the mind is still bonded beauty), if there are only two of us in this world (time I'm hungry. Two of us will eat sticky rice with chicken noodles. Who to buy), it's up to who (it's up to who sees it, who can hear it, who decides), calm down bro (where are you going to fight with? I don't have time. Search for mind) etc.
Many songs of the lyrics are annoying. Such as when a lot of love songs say, " there are only us in this world brother chik asked me. Who will you want to eat noodles, who do you buy from? During a loud song If you don't love me, tell me. Tell me a word. " brother chik also wrote a song. Calm down. Where are you going? Let's see.
Khun Prapha Somchai cuddle will see the world in the drone corner. It's flying up to see the wide picture and spread out that there may be a corner that we forget to look at. The world could be something else.
...

"many more" in the meaning of brother chik doesn't eat just one thing. There are hundreds of thousands of possible sources, but it also means looking at everyone. Everything is equally important. Equally beautiful. Not comparing to take it to take the beams, but look beautiful. Of that person then pull out that potential to create value
" Classic, don't insult jazz
Jazz don't watch clan pop
Pop, don't mind the country.
Don't be sulking with doctor lam.
Doctor Lam, don't think more than classic. It's high "
This is a message on the screen in the concert. The song makes me think of what brother chik told me in this book. "people are like fingers. It's not equal but fingers too and have different duties" is a teacher's speech. Teaching kids in the young movie of piak posters.
To this day, the " finger is not equal " has been interpreted and wittalion. But in the meaning that I understand that brother chik wants to press, the " difference " rather than " inequality " is thumb is different from Index Finger and pinky and brother chik says " you could be a pinky finger which is more important than the index finger in some things read and think that our round fingers are valuable in our way.
"Tao" which sees the value of the nature of things like this. Often seen in the work of brother chik.

Mr. Prapha is not a big person. If there are two sides, brother chik will not stand on one side. Maybe because of the eyes that sees the beauty of each thing, each mind and an open view. I don't believe that anyone is all right. Or all wrong. Everything is good or bad.
Most importantly, this kind of thought resilience is believed that the people or the extreme thoughts we see are not eternal, but it can always change. The Extreme can also be adjusted, divided, exchange. New ingredients in themselves.
Once I had an opportunity to sit and talk with brother chik. Then we went to consult about making tv show. Our team is interested in a program that focuses on content. Easy, I want to pass knowledge to the audience. When I tell you the pattern and content to you. Listen to the brother ask, " is knowledge necessary that it must not be fun stop thinking and continue asking " is entertainment necessary to be ridiculous "
Just these two questions expand our view. We can see a new area that there is still space in the middle that combines what we thought were irrelevant. Different Worlds. and if we could, we could, we wouldn't cut off any kind of value.
...
4
That's another feature of brother chik that I secretly look at. This guy doesn't teach straight away, doesn't comment, but he likes to ask questions. Let the partner to consider it himself. This technique is used in writing as well.
The question that brother chik throws at can make us think " can it be something else " or " can it really see one way
This kind of conversation is like a kind adult who doesn't block. It doesn't draw the line what it should be. But let us choose by ourselves. This is how to tease you think with the question that khun prapha can use this kind of weapon. Praew praew praw praw praw praw The more and more.
If anyone has worked with brother chik, maybe it feels why I came up with this idea! I'm really good! But in fact, we can think because we are triggered by his brother's questions, but we will feel good because no one has ordered us to do that. We make our own decisions.
So it's not just creative work, but the way of working is also creative.
...

The Picture of brother chik that I remember when I was looking at the idol in the conference room is a picture of a playful executive like a little boy who had the big one who had the power to make any decision.
I saw his brother spinning pen, drawing a picture, and poke him out while everyone was meeting seriously thinking about it.
Good ideas often come up during our relaxing time -- I've heard many good thinking people say that. Many people say that if we don't lose our children, we will always keep the potential to imagine and creative.
Photo of Mr. Prapha in the conference room for me like a playful kid.
Another picture that I remember is in the conference room and dining table of the group who often meet each other. Brother Chik will tease the scared by putting a glass of water. The Edge of the table. It seems to fall to test if that person can endure enough. That person keeps moving deep. Mr. Prapha will laugh and says, " can't you stand it? Can't you stand this kind of thing
A Writer, a creative thinker that we have been following for a long time. Admired and thought that he would be quiet. But when he met the real one, he became a playful little boy, fast talking, Pear, praw and questioning. A very fun conversation.
...

If I would write about "the" from the eyes that I would have written many pages of paper because I have been looking at brother chik since the work behind my thoughts to read every interview that I saw until I had a chance to meet on the occasion. I'm always looking at verbs, symptoms and thoughts of brother chik. Teacher's Melody.
Finally, brother chik is not crazy. People may see the work, but they don't have to see his own. We know the song. Scream and laugh with brothers and musicians. We love the program of work. Point or many other creative works caused by this brother's mind, but often we don't even know or don't even think there is him behind it.
This is another thing that brother chik taught me. We can make a change or create something without letting people see us. in some cases, it's more powerful than having better cuddle results.
We have seen Mr. Prapha through some work, but I believe there are many pieces of this sharp and round anchor that we didn't know was his work.
The fit of being seen is something that brother chik manages to learn and nan cuddle baht.
Prapha Chon Saranon is a teacher with many lessons to sneak peek and learn.
Thank you brother chik for being an inspiration, an open thought perspective. He ignites the dream of writing books and giving "many more" tips in my heart since I was in teenagers through your work.
Congratulations to brother chik for the National Artist Award in performing arts as the creator of International Thai entertainment and music event this year.
I really want to tell brother chik that "music writing music"
At least one of me is the productivity from your song.
With love and thanks

【Pixar動畫】

On the track, the 17-year-old pop singer shouts out Pixar films like A Bug's Life, WALL-E, The Incredibles and Toy Story, while grappling with harsh realities of growing up. "At age of nine, I lived through Pixar on a screen/ And every single problem seemed so little then to me/ 'Cause Flik still saved the anthill even though I couldn't see beyond/ The kids at school that hated me and my insecurity/ Oh I thought I was invincible/ But Mr. Incredible could only take so much," he croons on the melancholy single.
“'Fairytale" is about the moment where someone you look up to lets you down," Livingston, who hails from Denton, Texas, tells Billboard. "Putting this idea in the form of Pixar superheroes felt like the right way for me to tell my story. Everyone knows these stories and their moral lessons, so drawing from them gave me a really easy starting point to express my warning about putting all of your faith in someone who is just as human as you are.”
“We knew there was something special about Livingston from the moment we met him," add Elektra Music Group co-presidents Mike Easterlin and Gregg Nadel. "At seventeen years old, it’s already evident he is a true artist -- from writing and recording to mixing and producing all on his own, we know it’s just the beginning for Livingston. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome him to the Elektra family.”
"Fairytale," the Texas-born teen's debut major label release, is below.

Lyrics:
At age of nine I lived through Pixar on a screen
And every single problem seemed so little then to me
Cause Flik still saved the anthill even though I couldn’t see beyond
The kids at school that hated me and my insecurity
Oh I thought I was invincible
But Mr. Incredible can only take so much and
I made my heart invisible
Cause I thought that WALL-E could still find love with an empty soul
So keep me awake
Just look in my eyes
I’m trying to let go
I try to forget
The fairytale lies
But it’s all that I’ve known
I was so scared to open up that door
Worried that the world outside wasn’t my home anymore
This isn’t Andy’s room, these aren’t the toys I used to know
What happened to the stories I was told
Then my mother asked me
Could you find confidence
Beyond Lightning McQueen
Cause stories won’t last once you wake from your dreams
I looked her in the eyes and asked her what it all means
If my heroes can only go so far
Oh I thought I was invincible
But Mr. Incredible can only take so much and
I made my heart invisible
Cause I thought that WALL-E could still find love with an empty soul
So keep me awake
Just look in my eyes
I’m trying to let go
I try to forget
The fairytale lies
But it’s all that I’ve known
Then my mother asked me
Could you find confidence
Beyond Lightning McQueen
Cause stories won’t last once you wake from your dreams
I looked her in the eyes and asked her what it all means
If my heroes can only go so far

Gold glitter wall art DIY
This is a simple, quick and easy DIY you can do. I went on to Google search and typed New Zealand map outline and chose from the images results. You can use that image as a guide if you're drawing freehand or use the image to print. Basically, I drew freehand on paper, cut the map, and trace the outline on the canvas. Alternately, you can draw directly freehand on the canvas. Once you have the outline on the canvas, you can start painting on the gold glitter glue. For me, since I used a thick layer of the glitter glue, it took about 5 days to dry. If you use glue separately and sprinkle on gold glitter, I think that dries quicker since all the glue will be covered by glitter. Anyways, either way will give you the same beautiful result. You can choose whatever country or state you want to do. Please take a photo and tag me on Facebook if you try this DIY. I'd love to see what you make.
P.S. This is quite fitting for New Zealand because the gold rush kickstarted the country's economy in the 1860s. Just a little history lesson from my boyfriend lol

#Watermelon #Macaron #Recipe
日本語版はこちら→ http://ameblo.jp/mosogourmet/entry-12163000674.html
We made watermelon macarons. We tried adding green food dye powder to the macaron and watermelon-flavored shaved-ice syrup to the buttercream filling. And this time, we finally used the "food pen"!
You love macarons. But they're hard to make. You always fail. So here is a simple recipe for making something similar to a macaron. Perfect for those of us who fail at making real macarons but want to eat as many macarons as they want! This is a true Moso-style recipe to make all of your dreams come true. It's a bit different than the real thing, but please try making it!
*Recipe*
Baking the macarons
1. Draw macaron-sized circles on the oven paper. For this recipe, about 35mm.
2. Put 1 egg white and 70g of granulated sugar in a metal bowl immersed in a hot water bath.
3. Mix with a hand mixer until fluffy.
4. Remove the bowl from the hot water bath.
5. Shake 32g of almond powder and 3g of green food dye powder (if adjusting color to your liking, just make sure the amount of dye and almond powder adds up to 35g) into the bowl through a sieve.
6. Thoroughly mix everything together.
7. Put the ingredients from '6' into a piping bag with a 1cm round tip.
8. Squeeze the mix from '7' into the guide circles from '1'.
9. Lower the temperature of the oven that was preheating at 200 degrees to 130 degrees. Place '8' in the oven and bake for 10 minutes. Do not open the oven while baking.
10. After the macarons have finished baking, leave them inside the oven for another 10 minutes.
11. Once cooled, gently peel the macarons off the oven sheet.
Making the buttercream filling (an easy-to-make amount)
12. Place 2 egg yolks in a bowl and whip with a hand mixer until whitish in color.
13. Place 65g of granulated sugar and 25g of water in a heat-resistant container.
14. Put it in the microwave for 40 seconds at 600W. Remove and mix.
15. Place it back in the microwave for 1 minute and 50 seconds.
16. Slowly add '12' a bit at a time to '15' while mixing.
17. Mix until cooled to about body temperature.
18. Add 150g (divided into 3 parts) of creamed unsalted butter to '17' and mix until glossy with each addition.
19. Take 100g from '18' (refrigerate the rest).
20. Add 30mL of watermelon-flavored shaved-ice syrup to '19' and mix.
21. Use a food pen to draw a pattern on half of the macarons from '11'.
22. Sandwich the cream from '20' between the macarons.
23. If you put the macarons in an airtight container and leave them in the fridge overnight, the macaron and cream meld together and taste delicious.
24. Eat the macarons while thinking to yourself, "These look just like a cute cartoon drawing of a watermelon!"
