Google近期推出的Chrome 88，最重要的變化莫過於移除老舊元件與通訊協定的支援，包含了Adobe宣布終止支援的Flash Player，以及FTP檔案共享的通訊協定。再者，該版本也開始支援以第3版Manifest格式製作的外掛程式，Google亦強調新格式大幅改善了外掛程式的安全與效能。
