I don't think I could have survived the past year if not for the two of you. I see how you have matured and grown as big sisters, how you try your best to teach and tolerate your younger brother, how you dote on the baby to the moon and back, how you enjoy being little Mamas and helping to change diapers, bathe, carry and calm him when he cries, how you try your best to cope with HBL, homework and revision independently, how you care for each other and like to share girly secrets, and last but not least, how you love me and Papa too.

Growing up, I thought having two kids would be ideal but that notion changed along the way. A big part of it was because seeing the two of you grow up into who you are made me feel like it would be wonderful to have a bigger family. Indeed, both of you have welcomed your siblings with open arms and are the best daughters and best sisters I could dream of, and I am so thankful that we are where we are today.

No doubt we will still have a great deal of challenges to tackle as you two become tweens and teens in a year or two, yet somehow, I know one way or another, we are gonna be all right. No, in fact, we are gonna be more than all right. We will weather every storm hand in hand and through it all, you two will be my BFFs and hopefully, I can be someone whom you are willing to share all your ups and downs, joy and woe with too.

Thank you for making me believe that I can be a good mum and for motivating me to be even better every day. I love you, my girls. ❤

英語で「だんだん好きになる」を自然に表現

皆さんは「徐々に〜が好きになる」と英語で言いたい場合、どのように表現しますか？私のこれまでの経験からすると、「I like _____ little by little.」のように「little by little」というフレーズを使って表現する日本人が多い気がします。決してそれがダメだと言うわけではないのですが、より自然な言い方があるのでご紹介しようと思います。

1) have/has come to like/love _____.
→「〜が徐々に好きになる」
--------------------------------------------------
　
“have/has come to”は「～するようになる」を意味し、当初はあまり好きでなかったことが、徐々に好きになることを表す場合によく使われる言い方です。例えば、英語を勉強し始めた当初は英語がすごく苦手で嫌いだったのに、学習していくうちに徐々に好きになっていったと言うなら「I've come to like English.」と言います。
　
✔他にも、以下の動詞と組み合わせた表現がよく使われる。

・I have come to appreciate ______（〜を感謝するようになった）

・I have come to realize _____（〜を気づくようになった）

・I have come to understand ______（〜を理解するようになった）

・I have come to believe ______（〜を信じるようになった）
　
＜例文＞
　
Over the years, I've come to love my job.
（ここ数年の間に、仕事が好きになってきました。）
　
I've come to realize that the most important thing is to take action.
（行動することが最も重要だと気づくようになりました。）
　
Once I became a father, I've really come to appreciate my parents.
（自分が父親になったことで、自分の両親のありがたみがわかるようになりました。）

2) Grow on someone

この表現も上記1)と同じ意味合いですが、何かをすればするほど、その良さが分かってくるといったニュアンスが含まれます。例えば、最初聞いた時はイマイチだった曲も、聞けば聞くほど好きになった経験はありませんか？そんな時に「This song grew on me.（この曲は聞けば聞くほど好きになった）」と言うことができます。
　
✔「I have grown to like/love _____」も同じ意味合い。
　
＜例文＞
　
He's a kind of comedian that grows on you after a while.
（彼は、後からだんだんハマっていくタイプのお笑い芸人です。）
　
Once you live in a place, it grows on you.
（住めば都だよ。）
　
I didn't like my English teacher at first, but she has grown on me.
（最初は英語の先生のことがあんまり好きちゃうかってんけど、だんだん好きになってきてん。）

“Acquired taste”は何回か食べる（飲む）うちに、だんだんと美味しく感じるようになること、いわゆる「慣れ親しんだ味」を意味します。例えば、大半の人はビールや焼酎、納豆などが当てはまるのではないでしょうか。初めて飲んだ時や食べた時から美味しいと思う人は少ないかと思います。
　
＜例文＞
　
I have acquired a taste for black coffee.
（私は徐々にブラック・コーヒが好きになりました。）
　
Cilantro is an acquired taste. It grows on you over time.
（パクチーは、だんだん好きになっていく味です。食べれば食べるほど、良さが分かってきます。）
　
I know that stinky tofu is an acquired taste but I don't think I can ever eat it.

We’ve all done things in the past we’re not proud of. The best way for us to heal is to accept ourselves- every flaw and moment we’ve been ashamed of to learn to let go of those emotions to truly be happy.

Everyone has a story of their own & this one’s mine. I went through a lot as a child from learning how to cope with the death of my brother, sleeping in cars because we were either homeless or moving from place to place, and leaving my parents to have a better life.

I’ve learned that life moves on, either with or without you - so learn to live life happily, wholeheartedly. Work on yourself and learn to really love yourself by accepting who you were born to be.

Mapopo Community Farm in Ma Shi Po Village located in Luen Wo Hui, Fanling is where a number of disputes have occurred during clearance of farmland.

Owner Becky Au said the farm has supported her family for three generations. “I love telling stories about this village and showing people that Hong Kong has its own agricultural sector and can grow its own vegetables.”
