Woohoo! We are featured in The Sunday Times today!
The topic is on how to have cosy, creative celebrations amidst the pandemic and how staying home presents an opportunity for families to bond and get closer.
If you follow my stories, you will know that Ariel designed an "Animal Experience Studio" for the family to get together and enjoy. She came up with a series of games, including a classification game using our animal figurines, a tossing game where you try to throw the animals into containers of different sizes, an animal 'hunt' where she hid them around the house, a drawing game where she categorised the animals based on easy/medium/hard level, and a Bingo game where she surprised me by painstakingly drawing every card by hand for each of us.
We played this during the Father's Day weekend recently and it was so much fun for the whole family. She even prepared small prizes from her own stationery and a lovely "Thank You" speech to thank us for participating. Awww. So I think she is very thrilled to see it being mentioned in the papers today and to see a huge photo of all of us playing her game. Yup, even her self-designed poster is featured too. You totally deserve it, my dear!
She said she was inspired by my DIY Halloween party last year and the name was derived from our visit to Changi Experience Studio earlier this year. And you know what? The success of this initiative has propelled her to want to create even more party games and celebrations for us in the future. Yippee!
Big thanks also goes to the hubby and the siblings for joining in wholeheartedly and to the big sister for ensuring that the games flowed smoothly too. It is indeed true that celebrating indoors does not have to be mundane but instead, it can be intimate, creative and fun. I am just so happy and relieved that the kids share my sentiments too.
Thanks to Kamal from The Straits Times for interviewing us and even including my blog link in the article too! What a great way to end off the school holidays, which I wish could last longer so we could have more fun as a family.
Have a happy Sunday, everybody! ❤

【Lesson #2 - Don't fall in love with your product】
Anyone who’s read Eric Ries’ “The Lean Startup” (and even those that didn’t) is all too familiar with the concept of a minimum viable product (MVP)—except when they’re not. Oftentimes through a perfectionist attitude or perhaps inherent fear of failure, founders create products that are more viable than minimum. That was the experience for Kevin Wong, the Co-founder/CEO of Origami Labs (AW#15), when they were creating their first product, a smart ring called ORII. According to Kevin, it was because he had such an attachment to this vision in his head, and anything short of that vision just felt like a concession. He’s since learned to accept a more iterative approach to product development and applying that lesson to his current product OFLO which enables smartphone-level comms in an audio wearable designed specifically for frontline staff.
—-
After establishing Origami Labs in 2015, we spent several years in R&D to create our first product ORII, a voice assistant smart ring that uses bone conduction technology to allow users to check new messages on their phone, control music, and complete other everyday tasks by simply holding your finger to your ear. This simple, intuitive finger-to-ear motion was what we loved so much about the product and what made it so easy to catch on and talk about. Our kickstarter campaign blew way past the initial goal in a matter of weeks. We became the first HK startup to place in TechCrunch Battlefield’s top 5. Press coverage was coming at us left and right and orders were coming from over 50 different countries. A lot of that, however, turned out to be false momentum.
In retrospect, ORII probably should have never been able to sell as well as it did. A lot of founders through sheer passion, grit, and willpower alone can build up early traction without breaking a sweat. But can someone 2 to 3 degrees away from them sell their product? That’s where founders really get measured in success. At some point, the product should be able to stand on its own two feet and speak for itself.
ORII could not. That elegant finger-to-ear motion that we were so enamored with ultimately became its achilles heel. It turns out, in 95 percent of the scenarios, you wouldn’t want to lift your hand to your head, especially in this wireless/hands-free age. We effectively fell in love with our product and stopped really listening to our customers. We thought it was perfect and became blind to any signals that said otherwise. I still remember going to visit Eric Migicovsky, YC partner and founder of Pebble watch, at his house. I showed him some of our early prototypes and he basically said “that’s cool, but it won’t work,” drawing upon his own experiences with hardware. Sure enough, after the initial media frenzy died down, orders started to visibly slow down. The final nail in the coffin was when Amazon released the echo loop (smart ring tied to Alexa), which mimicked our product feature-for-feature but better in every way.
As a founder, what you want to build makes so much sense. You see it with so much clarity that it’s almost unfathomable why someone wouldn’t understand. But innovation has to be an iterative process, as the market can only accept so much change. You need to put out a product that’s in some way necessary for people today, that gets some people using it on a frequent basis, and only from there can you practically grow it into something that you envisioned.
Applications for AW#22 are now open to founders targeting SEA, AI/IoT, or Blockchain/Defi -> https://bit.ly/36v9k8D

Di antara membaca, bercakap dan menulis, mana satu nak dimulakan dulu?
1. Bercakap.
Usia KRITIKAL : 0-2 tahun.
...Continue ReadingBetween Reading, talking and writing, which one to start first?
1. Talk.
Critical Age: 0-2 years old.
This is the most important element in the life of a human being. Talking is important for us to communicate about our thoughts and feelings so that the people around know what we want to say so that there will be no misunderstanding.
Start since your child just came out to see the world, which is within 24 hours after being born. Greet your child, give greetings... say 'hi', kiss.... hug, say whatever you want to say. Just chat. It looks like it's not right when sitting in the ward, we're talking alone while giving eye contact to the baby. But that's the first thing we have to do since our child was born. And konsistenlah talks to them until they grow up, nak2 in the first two years.
I often ask parents, ' child can talk or not? 'most answer' already, said... ABC, 123 all he knows. Even jawi letters. ' I said, that's not talking. Where is the same talk by knowing those letters!
Talking is communicating. There is an eye contact, got a child answering back to the question, react to the name from mom dad, calling, not mention it.
Once when my child was admitted in the hospital, there was a mother 'talking' to her child who was a year and 6 months in spelling. That's strong! ' B.U.K.U... Book! ' I guess he's the target of his child to be good at spelling while talking. The rest of the time, I see his son just given a gadget and 'learn' through gadgets. Rampage Toksah say it. As long as something is wrong, the child is just raging. Noisy one ward listen!
I'm crazy looking at it!
Spelling is not talking!
Reading is not talking!
Counting not talking!
Talk need to have eye contact.
Speaking must have a understanding between two parties.
Talk must have expression and expression.
Talking is communication, there are people who listen, there are people who reply back.
Speaking must have a impersonation, better to copy in terms of style or sound of rattles.
Giving gadgets and learning at this age?
If possible, avoid it!
2. Doodling & painting
Critical Age: 1-3 years old.
It's important for your child to learn to hold a pencil or a crayon or a big painting brush at the moment for a doodling session.
If you're worried that your child will doodle the wall, buy a big paper paper, paste it on the wall of the house. If there is more budget, wall the wall with paint is easy to delete. If it's so hard to do, just accept that the walls of the house have to be doodle.
Contenting helps the child express their mind.
Doodling helps children strengthen hand muscles.
Content there is a visual element of perceptual (this is another chapter).
Doodling creates midline crossing abilities.
Doodling helps the formation of a finger holding a pencil (Pencil Grip).
Don't care where to doodle. On Paper, on the floor, near the wall, books... we are grown up, please think of the best way to encourage children to be doodling. Follow everyone who wants to control your heart and feelings to see the house messy or what.... most importantly, think of the way!
May I make the element of the sand, the ground, the stone... for the wood twig... no complaints, as long as the child can be conteng.
During this age, don't force your child to write too much. It's fun to ask to write ABC, number, jawi letter...
Teach child painting after doodling.
Paint bentuk2 that is around us.
Animal Paint, plants, homes, or anything.
Accompany the child to draw.
Use water colour, crayon or any drawing tools.
It's not a waste to spend money buying these things. Not a loss!
3. Coloring.
Critical Age: 1-3 years old.
Teach the color at this age.
Coloring activity helps children form straight, vertical, oblique, rounded lines and so on.
The Color of the painting that is in let it fit the age of the child.
Don't be asked to coloring the complex painting. If possible, avoid coloring the painting inside the gadget.
Coloring in gadgets does not bring any meaning to hand muscle. How to develop a memory motor against the line?
At this age, you don't have to worry if the children are still not good at the color in the line. Still the color out the line is normal. No problem. The most important thing is, he knows where to color it.
Create a concept of coloring as early as possible. No need to wait until school is just about to coloring.
No need to bring to the mall, coloring at the that has of for in, then you have to pay. The color at home is better. It's better for us to draw a picture of our family, ask our children to be color. Simple. Saving a lot.
4. Writing and reading.
Critical age of writing: 4 years
Starting age knowing letters and numbers: 4 years
Beginning of reading age: 5 years and above.
Age that is considered late to be able to read: 11 years.
Logically, when the child has learned a lot of lines through doodling and coloring, it's self-prepare to write. This time it's easy to write letters and numbers even though they don't know the letters and numbers yet. No problem.
Can teach to write in a session, then teach to know the letter in the later session.... at the age of 4! This is the earliest age! Not too late yet.
No need to worry because once a child and learn letters, a few letters... start to read at the age of 5
If we follow all this process gradually, God willing, the child has no problem! No need to worry too much.
If we 'turn' all this process, there will be consequences because it has violated the development of a human being.
If you feel there is an effect, don't be shy to bring the therapist to fix the problems that are available.
So much.
.........
Picture for example only not encourage for children to doodle walls.
Parents please paste the big paper on the wall so that the children are free to play at the same time they can work comfortably

Drawing is not complicated for me, but when using the feet to draw, i feel drawing is not easy anymore, because it is very shaky and difficult to control .
I chose the ballpoint pen for this drawing challenge because I didn't have to use many different pens.
The first time I was drawing with the feet VS 10 years I draw by hand .
Which one of my paintings do you like?

Time Lapse Painting Adobe Fresco - Affogato & Pillow
Affogato means “drowned” in Italian and it is essentially drowning ice cream in coffee. The hot coffee starts to melt the ice cream and forms a thick foam at the top. A must-try coffee-based dessert!
My skill may not be perfect but I still hope you can enjoy this time-lapse! Subscribe to my channel if you want to see more clips like this!

We made a charm using almost entirely material from the 100 yen shop! We're not great at drawing so we colored into decals. We used cookie molds because the shape makes it easy to understand what it is even only with the frame. You can enjoy creating cheap DIY's thanks to 100 yen shops like Cando or Daiso. We live in blessed times!
We received a comment that said that MosoGourmet seem to only make food crafts, but recently we've been getting the itch to get into things such as sewing and other handicrafts!
*Recipe*
1. Cut the plastic molds from Cando into 5cm squares, write the direction of the plate, and do a test bake. It is convenient to know the characteristics of the board because it shrinks and warps differently depending on them.
2. Mark it with masking tape so that you can see the vertical and horizontal directions and the front and back of the mold.
3. Cut the mold. If you want to make several, make the design face the same direction. The mold should be neatly shrunk by now.
4. File the entire surface so that the back of the mold is curved, with a #400 file from Daiso.
5. When the entire unit becomes white, remove any debris with a wet tissue.
6). When the mold is dry, place a cookie mold on its surface and take out its shape with the file.
7. Color in with color pencils. This time, we used a watercolor pen. Watercolor pencils are sold in 12 colors at Cando and Daiso.
8. In the case of a watercolor pen, blur the color with a brush (from Daiso) containing a small amount of water (Daiso also sells paint plates). If you want to make it darker, add some color with the watercolor pen before it dries.
9. Cut a little inside the frame with scissors or a cutter. It's difficult to cut the fine parts, so we used eyebrow scissors.
10. Bake in a preheated toaster oven for about 2 minutes. Put it on the oven sheet (colored side up) and keep it in the oven toaster, keeping an eye on it while it shrinks. When it stops shrinking, take a breath and take it out the oven sheet.
11. Place it on a hard, flat surface that is resistant to heat and press it with a metal tray. Be careful, it's hot!
12. When it cools down, apply your favorite top coat. This time, we used a water-based topcoat spray (a matte "Mr.hobby"). When it dries up, spray it on the back side (the colored side) to prevent discoloration.
13. Attach your favorite accessories. This time, we drilled holes in it with a hand drill (from Cando) and a pin vice, and attached a crab that I bought at Daiso. Round-nosed pliers and finger holders can be purchased at a 100 yen shop.
14. All done. We'd like to make it again!
