28 Steamboat is back with a new name! 28 Shabu Shabu, 1st Floor, 88 Mall at Marketplace 88 Kepayan now serves hotpot in a different style, with simple affordable filling japanese meals, ramen, donburi, yakitori, nabe, set meals and even sushi 😋

We ordered the Kaisen Chinge Nabe Set RM43.20, Assorted Sushi Set RM15.30, Ice Peach Tea RM3.80, Hot Matcha RM1.50 (Refillable), more sushi afterwards and of course ice cream for dessert 🤤

Also had Yose Nabe Set RM41.20, Unagi Set RM26.80 and the Yakitori Set RM25 from our neighboring table @theadventuresofgengmakan 🤭🤣 Sharing is caring.

This nabe set is serve with either dry noodle or rice. Love the Kimuchi broth (Kaisen Chinge Nabe Set) 🤤🤤🤤 Favorite. It's not too spicy and tasted yummy. The Yose Nabe Set is a soy based broth, not bad but still prefers the Kimuchi one. Unagi though, 4 slices is not enough 😭 it's so good, melts in your mouth kinda feeling. Am so full that I almost dozed off after sushi, thankfully still have space for ice cream. Chocolate ones today, YUNo matcha? Huhu still good regardless. Might wanna go back for the donburi next time. Looks so good.

Time to feast! Thanks to Oyster Co 🦪 and SushiCo 🍣, we had a hassle-free and yummylicious dinner!

To be frank, while the kids and I have always loved Japanese food, we usually stay away from oysters even though the hubby raves about how delicious fresh oysters can be.

So I was truly amazed when the big girl said she wanted to try the baked oysters (see more in my stories) which makes it her first attempt at eating this seafood. She loved the Mentaiko Cheese one which she said has no strong smell at all and tastes so good while I like the Oyster Omelette one because I love orh luak! Yup, I tend to leave out the orh but this was too big, fresh and tempting to pass. We left the Salted Egg and Vermicelli oysters, which were a little spicy, and the raw oysters for the hubby and my in-laws who said they were 饱满, big, fresh and delicious. Asher also liked the mee sua which was flavourful because of the gravy.

For the Jap food, Angel loved the California Rolls and Salmon Sashimi while Ariel gave her thumbs up for the Yakitori - which had grilled pork, bacon with enoki and scallop, mushrooms and asparagus. When we gave our feedback that our Chawanmushi was undercooked, the staff was prompt to react and sent over a replacement, which was a gesture we deeply appreciated.

大好きなアイドルに夢中になったり、バスケや野球などスポーツにのめり込むことを日本語で「ハマる」と言いますが、ネイティブは英語でどのように表現しているかご存知ですか？今回は、ネイティブが「はまっている」や「夢中になっている」と表す際によく用いる表現3つをご紹介したいと思います。

1) I'm into _____.
→「〜にはまっている / 〜に夢中」

Be intoは「積極的に興味を持つ」という意味になることから、「ハマっている」の意味としても使うことができます。この表現は、一時的に夢中になっている場合と、ずっと好きな場合の両方に使うことができます。スポーツ、音楽、趣味、食べ物などの物事に限らず、誰か（人）に夢中になっている状況でも使うことができ、ネイティブが日常会話で頻繁に使う口語的な表現です。
　
✔多くのネイティブは「I'm really into _____」のようにReallyを加えて、夢中になっていることをより強調した言い方をする傾向がある。
　
＜例文＞
　
Lately, I’ve been really into golf.
（最近、ゴルフにハマっています。）
　
My daughter has been really into coloring ever since Grandma gave her a crayon set.
（おばあちゃんにクレヨンのセットをもらって以来、娘は色塗りにハマっています。）
　
My sister has always been into music. She was in a band in high school, and now she works as a DJ!
（妹は昔から音楽好きなんだよね。高校の時はバンドに入っていて、いまではDJとして働いているんだ。）

2) I'm obsessed with _____.
→「〜にすごくはまっている / 〜で頭がいっぱい」

直訳すると「～に取りつかれている」を意味するこの表現は、ハマり具合の大小を問わず使われますが、どちらかと言うと、少ししたら熱がさめるような一時的な状況で使われることが多いです。例えば、子供が新しいビデオゲームをもらって熱中している時や、オンラインショッピングに夢中になっている状況にピッタリの表現です。
　
✔アメリカでは、多少ハマっているだけの場合でも、皮肉でObsessedを「かなりハマっている」の意味としてを使うことがある。
　
＜例文＞

〜会話例１〜

A: Why don’t we eat sushi tonight?
（今夜お寿司食べない？）

B: Again? You are obsessed with sushi!
（えー？また？本当に寿司にハマってるよね。）
　
〜会話例２〜
A: My son is obsessed with everything Mickey!
（息子がミッキーのことで頭がいっぱいなんだよね！）

B: Oh, my daughter went through that too. She’ll grow out of it I’m sure.
（うちの娘もそうだったよ。そのうちきっと卒業するよ。）

A: When I was in high school, I was obsessed with SMAP!
（高校生だったころ、SMAPが大好きだったよ。）

B: Really? The kids now are all obsessed with Hey! Say! JUMP.
（そうだったんだ。今の子たちはHey! Say! JUMPにハマってるみたいだよ。）

→「〜にはまっている / 〜の虜になっている（口語的）」

Hookedは、もともと麻薬などに対する「中毒」を表す場合に使われていましたが、現在では「買い物中毒」や「コーヒー中毒」などを表現する場合にも使われています。一般的に「hooked on _____」のようにhookとonはセットで使われることが多いですが、「I am/was hooked!（ハマってしまった）」という風にonを省いた使い方でもOKです。
　
✔「I'm addicted to」も似たような意味を持つが、addictは薬物中毒のように結果的にプラスにならない娯楽に対して使われる傾向があり、スポーツや語学の勉強に対して使うのは違和感がある。
　
＜例文＞
　
Once you try surfing, you’ll be hooked!
（サーフィンを始めたら、ハマるよ！）
　
I think I’m addicted to coffee. I have to have at least 2 cups as soon as I wake up!
（わたし、コーヒー中毒かも。朝起きたらまず２杯飲まないとダメなのよ。）
　
My dog is hooked on these doggy-treats.
（うちの犬がこの犬用お菓子にハマってるのよ。）

As a disclaimer, my husband MANager Joe writes and creates the thumbnail so I was a bit #rolleye but hey! Let's have fun lah. (The reason behind this title is simply because I made a cameo in Marsha and Velvet's much loved hit "Sumandak Sabah" which has lyrics going "Sumandak Sabah ...mana ko mau cari? Semua lawa-lawa pandai masak nasi!")

Anyhoo...in light of the Kaamatan & Harvest Festival celebrations coming soon (Harvest Festival is a celebration to thank a bountiful harvest of rice) - I've themed our D'Varomas Live Cooking Show "Borneon with a Twist".

So what was cooked today?

1. Refreshing Lemonade with Asam Boi by Rifqi
2. Quick Steamed Mantou Buns by Suzie Alias
3. Lazy Mom's Tuna Sushi Balls by Aisyah Wahab and
4. Soup Ayam Lihing by Daphne Iking

I'd like to thank my Sales Advisors Mas Era and her 14 year old son Rifqi, Suzie and Aisyah for being my co-presenters of our #DVaromas Weekly LIVE show, as well as my wonder leaders in D'Varomas for sharing and commenting over the LIVE earlier.

Why the following menu?

1. Lemonade is our a well-known favourite beverage of most Thermomix users. Plus it demonstrates the TURBO power of the TMX where we can grind the rock sugar to powdery goodness in just 2 seconds! Add 2 cut lemons (with peel intact) with cold water, TURBO another 2 seconds and voila! It's done! Popped an asam boi cause we Sabahans love our Kit Cai Ping (kasturi drink with asam boi) so this is the twist in our much loved beverage.

2. Sabah is known for it's seafood. Dip your mantou buns (Steam or fried) with your Kam Heong Prawns or Chili Butter Crab ... delish!

3. Aisyah shows us how EASY and healthier and CLEANER it is to cook rice using the "simmering basket method". No grain of rice is wasted and her easy to make sushi rolls are definitely going to be a hit amongst my kiddos!

and finally

4. Sup Ayam Lihing (Chicken Rice Wine) is a popular soup of the Kadazandusun community. Usually I would use Ayam Kampung, but I only had chicken breasts so I had to make the broth in advance. Add a bit of lihing or rice wine and hmmmmm. Heaven!
