The Dragon Boat Festival occurs on the May 5th of the lunar calendar, which is June 18th this year (the date varies from year to year on the Gregorian calendar)! The focus of this festival involves eating zongzi (aka glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves), drinking realgar wine, and racing dragon boat. The only memory I have of this holiday is eating homemade zongzi!!! My mom makes it every year, and she would only do it once a year cause of the tedious prep work. Like any sort of “dumplings”, the fillings vary from family to family! Personally, I like the most basic one - simply glutinous rice and lots of blanched peanuts 😛
