One of the beautiful leaf insects photographed at Tabin Wildlife Reserve in Sabah, Malaysia Borneo.
In my years of nature exploration, I have to agree that Tabin Wildlife Reserve is probably one of the best places to observe Wildlife in all of Malaysia.
The entire reserve is larger than the island of Singapore and is home to all kinds of tropical flora & fauna, which will easily impress any nature lover or photographer.

Is it just me, or did Singapore become more beautiful this past year?
I think it’s probably due to the fact that we can’t travel, so we are ‘forced’ to explore our own backyard in SG. 🤣 But I’m thankful to have been to these corners - places I won’t even venture to pre-COVID.
If you are in the mood for exploring, here are a few suggestions to get you started:
SG’s best outdoor parks (more than 60!): https://www.cheekiemonkie.net/2021/03/singapore-best-outdoor-nature-parks.html
10 off-the-beaten-track hiking trails with varying difficulty levels: https://www.cheekiemonkie.net/2021/02/off-the-beaten-track-hiking-trails-singapore-for-families.html

[5 Things I am grateful for in 2020]
#4
It all started innocently, and on a whim. Right after Phase 2 happened in late June, the wifey & I decided to bring the kids to a nature park every weekend. I still remember our first outing as a family since CB was to Jurong Eco Garden, and we continued with our weekly nature visits to various parks around SG.
But something changed along the way... somehow the usual nature parks got too boring for the boys. So I decided to make it more exciting and the term 'S.A.D.' was born. It stands for Sunday Adventure Date where we will suss out ulu (or remote) places in SG to hike. And so began our exploration to forgotten and abandoned places like Keppel Hill Rervoir, Seng Chew Quarry and most recently, Bt Batok Hillside Park. We even jungle bashed to locate WWII bunkers at Kay Siang and Sembawang! Click on the photos to see the adventures we had in the past 6 months!
All of these, I am extremely grateful for in 2020. I am thankful for having the chance to reconnect with Nature, and also discover some parts of Singapore that I didn't know pre-COVID. But even more than that, I am happy that my teens are still willing to tag along on our S.A.D. days. 😄

With travel temporarily halted, we decided to explore the hidden gems within Singapore. Join us as we explore Thomson Nature Park, the 50-hectare buffer park unique for its rich cultural heritage as the site of a former Hainan Village. Thomson Nature Park is also home to a rich array of biodiversity and is notably a key conservation site for the critically endangered Raffles’ Banded Langur.
There are five trails within this park: Ruins and Figs Trail (1.50km), Streams and Ferns Trail (1.40km), Rambutan Trail (0.40km), Langur Trail (0.35km), and Macaque Trail (0.15km). Although we weren't fortunate enough to spot the elusive Raffles' Banded Langur on our multiple trips here, we did manage to catch wild boars and plenty of cheeky macaques.
May our videos be a form of escapism and source of zen for you, and encourage you to appreciate the little, simple things in life. Even in these turbulent times, there is still much beauty in this world if we keep our hearts and minds open.
Cheers!

With travel temporarily halted, we decided to explore the hidden gems within Singapore. Join us as we explore the local nature attractions nestled within the Southern Ridges, avoiding the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle that is metropolitan Singapore.
Our hike begins at the break of dawn at Henderson Waves, an award-winning architectural work of art designed by RSP Architects Planners & Engineers (Pte) Ltd and IJP Corporation Ltd, UK. The tallest pedestrian bridge in Singapore, Henderson Waves stands 36 meters above Henderson Road and spans a length of 274 meters. Next, we venture to the peak of Mount Faber Park and look out to stunning views of Singapore's heartlands. Then, we explore the myriad of pink bougainvillea flowers at Terrace Garden, a popular spot in Telok Blangah Hill Park. Finally, we end the day at Forest Walk and its incredible secondary forest.
May our videos be a form of escapism and source of zen for you, and encourage you to appreciate the little, simple things in life. Even in these turbulent times, there is still much beauty in this world if we keep our hearts and minds open.
Cheers!

Since travelling abroad is discouraged at the moment, we decided to do a short staycation in our own country. We spent 3D2N at Lloyd's Inn, a bright, minimal, and aesthetic boutique hotel located in Somerset. Here's what our staycation looked like.
Video shot with the Canon EOS R6, RF 15-35mm f2.8 lens, with the exception of the drone shots. Special thanks to Canon Singapore for letting us experience the Canon EOS R6.
