翻轉視界 18 Changing Perspective

There's not just one road to the destination, but many roads. You just need to take the little step that’s right in front of you, and then the next one, and a few years down the track, they will seem like massive achievements.

I didn’t meet my father until I was 6 years old. My parents had a comfortable, middle-class life in Shanghai, or as close as you could get under communism. But they always wanted to live overseas, and just before I was born, my dad came to Sydney to set things up. I don’t know why, but in the end, my mother and I didn’t join him until I was 6.

Joji tên thật là George Kusunoki Miller. Anh mang trong mình hai dòng máu Nhật - Úc. Joji đã có một thời gian sinh sống và học tập tại đất nước Nhật, cụ thể là anh đã từng học tại học viện Canadian ở Kobe, Nhật Bản. Trong khoảng thời gian đó thì anh đã trở nên nổi tiếng cùng kênh YouTube: TVFilthyFrank, nơi anh sẽ làm nhạc, skit, và các video vlog bẩn bựa và có tính chất gây shock. Năm 18 tuổi anh qua Mỹ, sống ẩn và vĩnh viễn gác lại sự nghiệp YouTube cùng những vai diễn trong The Filthy Frank Show khét tiếng của mình vì những vấn đề liên quan đến sự riêng tư và sức khoẻ tâm lý.

Ngoài sự nghiệp YouTube trong quá khứ, George cũng đã có một vài sự thử nghiệm với âm nhạc, như dòng R&B, Rap, trong khoảng thời gian anh ở Nhật. Pink Guy là một trong những thành công đầu tiên của anh trong âm nhạc. Nhưng dưới cái tên này thì George chỉ chủ yếu làm nhạc hài để phục vụ cho cộng đồng fan của anh. Còn Joji mới thực sự là nghệ danh anh muốn sử dụng để làm nhạc nghiêm túc. 'I Don't Wanna Waste My Time', 'Rain On Me' và 'Will He' là những track đầu tiên của Joji được dưới tư cách là nghệ sĩ trực thuộc công ty này. Lúc này, Joji đã chuyển sang một style âm nhạc hoàn toàn khác, pha trộn giữa rap, R&B, lo-fi,... và mang một màu sắc trầm buồn. This is one of my favourite duets of all time and the lyrics (and the subtle things behind the song..etc) are very beautiful & meaningful. If you think of anyone while watching this video, I hope you can send it to them to let them know the impact they’ve had on your life.

I have liked For Good since the first time I heard the song and have always wanted to record a cover of it, but never quite found someone I thought would be the right person to sing this song with me. When I started cosplaying as Magnus and later came across the Edom scene in Shadowhunters, where the characters were potentially separating from each other forever, I knew this was it. Plus, there are other similarities between Glinda & Elphaba in Wicked and Alec & Magnus from Shadowhunters (feel free to comment to let me know what you come up with).

Doing a cover of this song while cosplaying characters from one of my favourite shows, I knew I had to go the extra mile. The amount of time and effort spent along with the things I had to learn, get and do to pull it off was kind of insane, but worth it at the same time (lost track of how many all-nighters were involved.
