YESSSS! We made it!
Travelled 130km on our quad bikes to explore the authentic beauty and history of Cambodia 🇰🇭
It was an adventurous sightseeing trip as we traversed the countryside and small villages. Our hearts were so full as we were constantly being greeted by the friendly locals and children who were full of smiles!
Here are some of the interesting places we visited;
1. Phnom Tamao Zoological Park and Wildlife Rescue Center
A wonderful sanctuary for rescued animals. These animals were either being hunted for their body parts / trafficked and sold in black markets.
2. Tonle Bati Lakeside
A famous picnic spot for the locals where you can find floating huts on the water. We had authentic Cambodian lunch on one of the huts. It started raining 🌧 heavily after we finished lunch so I took a power nap on the relaxing hammock. Woke up feeling refreshed and we continued our ATV journey in the rain. Thank God for raincoats!
3. Taprohm Temple
This temple was built in the 11th century, even older than Angkor Wat and was nicely preserved.
4. The Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum.
Ended our tour at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (also known as the killing fields of Choeung Ek and mass grave of victims of the Khmer Rouge) which is a memorial site of interrogation and detention center of the Khmer Rouge regime. Almost 3 million people were persecuted during this dark period. We saw human skulls and walked through graves of innocent people who were killed when they resisted the regime. Also learned that they had speakers to blast loud music to drown the screaming of victims during the killing process! Quite a disturbing experience 😣
In a nutshell, we had a really fun and productive day (despite having sunburns because we forgot our sunscreens, drenched from the rain and partially covered in muds).
Wasn’t expecting to experience this side of Phnom Penh when we signed up for this trip as we had no activities planned! I guess this kind of YOLO trip is the best kind.
Definitely gonna come back for more adventures! :)
