Buy the Truth
“Buy the truth, and don’t sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.” (Proverbs 23:23 WEB)
Nothing is more precious than revelations about Jesus who is the way, the TRUTH, and the life. He is also who Wisdom represents in the Book of Proverbs.
Godly wisdom is stored up and reserved like precious treasure for the “upright” who are God’s children.
“For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity; that he may guard the paths of justice, and preserve the way of his saints.” (Proverbs 2:6-8 WEB)
To sell the truth means to give it away—discarding it as if there is anything else more worthy to trade it for.
When we trade revelations of Jesus away and choose to embrace ways of the world instead, we get conned into a bad deal.
Only knowing the truth can set us free. If we sell the truth, then we are left with unprofitable lies that leave us in bondage.
“Jacob boiled stew. Esau came in from the field, and he was famished. Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom. Jacob said, “First, sell me your birthright.” Esau said, “Behold, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?” Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Jacob. Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright.” (Genesis 25:29-34 WEB)
Esau was a man who was very short-sighted. He could only see what was in front of him. He was very hungry, and there was freshly-boiled stew, so he sold his birthright for a meager bowl of stew.
The birthright was something intangible to him so it did not seem real or valuable. He was a man who walked by sight and not by faith.
When you are feeling a desperate need, do you sell the truth and buy the world’s ways?
“All these revelations about Jesus are not practical or useful. Don’t get me wrong, they are good to know, but they cannot help me fix this problem in my life.”
A statement like that is like Esau despising his birthright, saying, “Behold, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?”
If you treat the Gospel of Jesus Christ as precious, God will be really pleased, for that is what He considers as true treasure. He who honors Jesus, receives honor because every good thing is found in Christ.
“For to the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him who pleases God. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.” (Ecclesiastes 2:26 WEB)
Can you see that God considers wisdom, knowledge, and joy as His precious gifts and priority, whereas gathering and heaping up (material wealth) is seen as a secondary matter?
You buy the truth by seeking out revelations about Jesus Christ, and making it your priority to know Him more.
When God gives you a rhema word, act upon it. Doubt it at your own detriment. God is good and His word is true. Buy the truth and do not sell it!

We Need Wisdom
“Receive my instruction rather than silver; knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies. All the things that may be desired can’t be compared to it. “I, wisdom, have made prudence my dwelling. Find out knowledge and discretion. The fear of Yahweh is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth. Counsel and sound knowledge are mine. I have understanding and power. By me kings reign, and princes decree justice. By me princes rule; nobles, and all the righteous rulers of the earth. I love those who love me. Those who seek me diligently will find me. With me are riches, honor, enduring wealth, and prosperity. My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold; my yield than choice silver. I walk in the way of righteousness, in the middle of the paths of justice; That I may give wealth to those who love me. I fill their treasuries.” (Proverbs 8:10-21 WEB)
In the passage above, God’s wisdom is speaking. Wisdom is the number one thing to seek from God. It empowers a person to retain and multiply the things he has been blessed with.
Without wisdom, you will make poor decisions that cause you to experience losses.
In the New Testament, we learn that God’s wisdom is actually Christ Jesus:
“Because of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:” (1 Corinthians 1:30 WEB)
You can replace the word “wisdom” in the Proverbs passage above. When you seek Jesus, He will give you wisdom by leading you by His Spirit, and teaching you truths.
You will be led to do the right thing at the right time, and the decisions you make will be prosperous ones that lead to lots of good.
Those who seek Jesus and become wise will be good leaders too.
Compared to eternity, this lifetime is so short, like a breath of air. There is no time to waste by being foolish, bitter, worried, and fearful. Every day when you pray, always ask for wisdom, and you can be sure that God will supply it generously!
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5 WEB)
Keep studying God’s word and growing in your understanding of His ways. Our Patreon community is currently on a Bible study series called “My Faith Declarations” which looks at the Spirit-inspired utterances of the authors of the Psalms. They wrote about the trials and tribulations they experienced, so the book of Psalms is very relatable.
By turning their faith declarations into our own, we can learn how to overcome similar circumstances in life through faith in the Lord! (Day 26 of #ProverbsHesedWisdomChallenge to read a chapter from the Book of Proverbs each day which corresponds to the date as suggested by Pastor Joseph Prince in 7 Jan 2018’s Vision Sunday sermon -
http://www.miltongoh.net/miltons-blog/the-year-of-hesed-wisdom-vision-sunday-new-creation-church-theme-of-the-year-2018 ):
Proverbs 1
-------------
When reading the Book of Proverbs or any book of the Bible for that matter, the first step to receiving God’s Hesed Wisdom is to worship God. If you truly worship Him, you will want to know everything about Him and your heart will be open to receiving whatever He has for you.
Are you a fan-girl or fan-boy of God?
“The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.” (PROVERBS 1:7 AMP)
When you have God’s Hesed Wisdom, beauty and glory will be seen upon you.
“My son, hear the instruction of your father, And do not reject the teaching of your mother. For they are a garland of grace on your head, And chains and ornaments [of gold] around your neck.” (PROVERBS 1:8-9 AMP)
Never make a decision based upon greed. Greed takes doesn’t add life, it takes life away.
“So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; Greed takes away the lives of its possessors.” (PROVERBS 1:19 AMP)
Jesus is the Wisdom of God. This section of Proverbs 20-33 is actually referring to Jesus and how He is giving an open call for men to receive salvation and the good life from Him, but the fools and self-righteous people ignore it.
God promises a safe and secure life to all those who live by His Hesed Wisdom.
“Wisdom shouts in the street, She raises her voice in the markets; She calls out at the head of the noisy streets [where large crowds gather]; At the entrance of the city gates she speaks her words: “How long, O naive ones [you who are easily misled], will you love being simple-minded and undiscerning? How long will scoffers [who ridicule and deride] delight in scoffing, How long will fools [who obstinately mock truth] hate knowledge? “If you will turn and pay attention to my rebuke, Behold, I [Wisdom] will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.
“But whoever listens to me (Wisdom) will live securely and in confident trust And will be at ease, without fear or dread of evil.”” (PROVERBS 1:20-23, 33 AMP)
Proverbs 2
--------------
God’s Hesed Wisdom is stored up in God’s word - the Bible.
It is stored up for believers because it takes the Holy Spirit for a person to understand the revelations about Jesus in the Bible.
If you are a believer, God promises that He is your Protector.
“If you seek skillful and godly wisdom as you would silver And search for her as you would hidden treasures; Then you will understand the [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] And discover the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives [skillful and godly] wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores away sound wisdom for the righteous [those who are in right standing with Him]; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity [those of honorable character and moral courage], He guards the paths of justice; And He preserves the way of His saints (believers).” (PROVERBS 2:4-8 AMP)
God warns believers against two main types of evil people: The evildoing man and the adulterous woman.
“To keep you from the way of evil and the evil man, From the man who speaks perverse things; From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness; Who find joy in doing evil And delight in the perversity of evil, Whose paths are crooked, And who are devious in their ways; To keep you from the immoral woman; From the seductress with her flattering words, Who leaves the companion (husband) of her youth, And forgets the covenant of her God.” (PROVERBS 2:12-17 AMP)
God promises that believers will live long on the earth whereas non-believers who are evildoers will have their lives cut short.
Longevity is a gift from God.
“For the upright [those who are in right standing with God] will live in the land And those [of integrity] who are blameless [in God’s sight] will remain in it; But the wicked will be cut off from the land And the treacherous shall be [forcibly] uprooted and removed from it.” (PROVERBS 2:21-22 AMP)
