Singapore’s leading media entertainment and content company MM2 Entertainment Singapore is delighted to announce the release dates for a slate of Singapore films for 2020 and 2021.

“We are extremely excited to share this slate of Singapore-made movies, including the first local film to release in 2020. It has not been a good year for Singapore moviegoers, with the pandemic causing havoc to the releases to Hollywood and Asian movies. Every year there is a steady stream of new Singapore movies released in cinemas. This year, however, due to the pandemic and the circuit breaker, there has not been any local releases to date. We are therefore proud to be releasing this slate of Singapore films, for Singaporeans,” says Mr Ng Say Yong, Chief Content Officer of mm2 Asia.

“These films are uplifting stories that are certain to entertain moviegoers, and very relevant to our times. It is especially important in this time when we need to be socially distant, that we are still able to connect with the community through the shared cinematic experience. Laughing together, crying together - the group effect of watching a film together in a theatre: that is what cannot be replicated at home or on a mobile screen,” he continues.

Number 1 will be the first Singapore film to be released in 2020. The film portrays a man who gets retrenched and must take on an unorthodox job as a means of survival. The movie will resonate with moviegoers, in this current climate where the local jobless rate is the highest in more than a decade. Local funnyman Mark Lee delivers a career-defining performance in the challenging role of the film’s lead; and has been nominated for top acting honours at this year’s Golden Horse Awards in November.

Additionally, mm2 has announced an exciting slate of local films scheduled for release up to June 2021. The list of films includes comedies, dramas, horrors and thrillers - offering a wide variety of cinematic options guaranteed to please even the most discerning movie lover. Included in the list are Jack Neo’s The Diam Diam Era 1 & 2 slated for the year-end school holidays and Chinese New Year respectively, as well as Mark Lee’s directorial debut Running Ghost.

We deviated from our weekly park hikes to visit the last remaining kampung in Singapore, Kampung Buangkok. Stepping into the village is like being transported into another world - the sights, sounds and smells were unlike anything the kids have experienced.

There are still about 25 families living here and the land it sits on is owned by one family. The original owner has since passed away so it is now managed by his son & daughter. And guess how much is the monthly rent? It averages about $7.50!!! 😱 Yes, join the queue behind me if you want to stay here too. 😁

Even though the public can enter the kampung & walk along the common pathways, it is still private land after all so it is only right if you seek the village chief, Miss Sng's permission if you intend to take any IG-worthy photos or videos.

OR you can sign up for Let's Go Tour 'Kampung Experience' tour where not only did we have a licensed tour guide pointing out various interesting sites within the kampung, we also entered two of the zinc-roofed wooden houses and played some retro games like five stones, pick-up-sticks and zero point!

Definitely brought back plenty of childhood memories for the wifey & me but most importantly, it showed the kids what life in Singapore was like back in the pre-80's. In fact, Ash learnt about the history about the formation of HDB in his Sec Sch History lessons - I'm told P3 Social Studies textbook covers this too - so there's nothing like watching history unfold right in front of your eyes... coupled with the guide's sharing of the transition difficulties villagers faced during relocation from kampungs to HDBs.

I love how the whole 2-hour tour was put together, especially how it intentionally added learning points from MOE's History syllabus. Great fun too for the kids, who were exposed to a rustic part of Singapore they could only see from photos in textbooks before this.

With travel temporarily halted, we decided to explore the hidden gems within Singapore. Join us as we explore Thomson Nature Park, the 50-hectare buffer park unique for its rich cultural heritage as the site of a former Hainan Village. Thomson Nature Park is also home to a rich array of biodiversity and is notably a key conservation site for the critically endangered Raffles’ Banded Langur.

There are five trails within this park: Ruins and Figs Trail (1.50km), Streams and Ferns Trail (1.40km), Rambutan Trail (0.40km), Langur Trail (0.35km), and Macaque Trail (0.15km). Although we weren't fortunate enough to spot the elusive Raffles' Banded Langur on our multiple trips here, we did manage to catch wild boars and plenty of cheeky macaques.

May our videos be a form of escapism and source of zen for you, and encourage you to appreciate the little, simple things in life. Even in these turbulent times, there is still much beauty in this world if we keep our hearts and minds open.
