For those of you who cannot read Thai:
Correct and respectful attire during mourning period. (For general public, 30 days, for government officials 1 year)
Colors include black, white or dark grey. Try to avoid printed material or logos if possible, stick to solid colors.
Women: wear shirts, tops with sleeves. Avoid tank tops, spaghetti straps or sleeveless tube tops. If you have to wear tank top, pair with black jacket or cardigan or cover bare shoulders with black scarf or shawl so as to be respectful.
Skirts should be below knee, avoid mini skirts or shorts. Wear black or dark grey pants. If necessary dark or black jeans may be worn. Avoid light colored and ripped jeans.
If you plan to show your respects at the Grand Palace, wear skirt below knee, black tights and closed shoes. (not showing toe or heel)
Men: button down shirts, long or short sleeves, polo shirts with collar. T shirts are ok, but should be plain dark color without pattern or logos of any kind.
If going to Palace, men should wear long sleeves white shirt with black tie, black pants and leather shoes.
People who do not have proper attire are encouraged to find some to wear for at least 30 days or to try their best to comply with above guidelines. In the case where one cannot do so, tying or pinning a black ribbon to your clothes is also accepted as a sign of mourning.
At the end, no one will force you or punish you if you don't do so, but the majority of Thai people will be showing their respect by dressing accordingly. This is a very serious moment in time for our country and it means a great deal to us to see that you are showing respect in our time of grief.
