Love Over Knowledge
“And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him.” (I Corinthians 8:2-3 NKJV)
When you think you already know, it reveals that you still have a lot to learn. We are always just scratching the surface of God’s wisdom hidden in the Scriptures. There are lots more revelations to be received, in a fuller, clearer measure.
Knowledge is progressively given to the church. It seems like as time goes by, the revelation of God’s grace and Jesus’ atoning sacrifice at the cross is getting clearer. More light is coming and our path is shining brighter and brighter until the perfect day of Jesus’ return (Proverbs 4:18).
However, God prefers you to prioritize loving Him than to acquire knowledge. When you love God, you will have faith in Him, whereas knowledge can sometimes make you overthink things and rely on yourself out of pride instead of depending on God.
How to love God? Try your best? No...it comes by getting a revelation of how much He first loved you.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8 NKJV)
Before you even cared about God, when you still saw Him as an enemy, sinning as though it were normal, He already sent Jesus to die on your behalf.
God placed your lifetime of sins upon Jesus and punished them fully in His beloved Son, so that He would not have to punish you for those sins if you accept Jesus’ sacrifice, making Him your Lord and Savior.
Seek to gain a greater revelation of God’s love and grace. When you see how much you were forgiven of, and the lavish way God did it for you, you will love Him back (Luke 7:47).
Then knowledge will flow from the Holy Spirit. You can ask for it (James 1:5) because you have a relationship with God and thereby access to His secrets.
You will not lack the knowledge and wisdom that is reserved for God’s saints, for He will give it to you liberally and without reproach!
