運動後宜吃甚麼?
無論想瘦身還是增肌,往往需要飲食和運動雙管齊下,但有說運動後進食會異常吸收,以致不少人在運動後都不敢進食,或者只吃蔬菜沙律果腹,但其實這有可能會影響健康!從中醫角度來說,沙律屬於生冷食物,進食後容易損傷陽氣,一旦脾胃陽氣受損,運化水液功能減退,就會導致水液在體內停滯,令身體多餘水分未可排出,也會引致痰濕症狀,亦會引致腸胃不適、疲倦、水腫等問題,所以運動後只吃蔬菜沙律恐怕會造成反效果。
其實運動後更需要補充適當的熱量及營養,修補身體組織,同時有助增肌減脂。建議運動後半小時至一小時進食,以優質蛋白質和碳水化合物為主,例如燕麥米水、紅米飯、糙米飯、白飯、小米粥、薯仔、番薯、雞蛋、豬肉、雞肉、魚肉等,煮法以蒸、煮、烚為主,避免煎炸等油膩煮法,再配搭適量蔬果,份量不宜過多,約七分飽就好。
Things to eat after exercising
Whether you are trying to lose fat or tone up, diet and exercise would need to be complementary. Some say that you absorb more into your body if you eat after exercising. Many people therefore do not eat after exercising or they choose to have salads. The truth is this might negatively affect your health too. From a Chinese medicine perspective, salad is a cold/raw food. It is easy to damage the yang qi after eating. Once the yang qi of spleen and stomach are damaged, the fluid transport functions will be reduced which will cause water stagnation in the body and it cannot discharge extra fluids. The body will produce phlegm and dampness symptom and cause problems such as stomach discomfort, fatigue, edema, etc. Therefore, eating salads after exercising may cause adverse effects.
In fact, it is necessary to absorb the appropriate calories and nutrition after exercise to repair the body tissue and help to build muscle and burn fat at the same time. It is recommended to eat from half an hour to 1hour after doing exercise. The diet should be mainly based on high-quality protein and carbohydrates such as oat rice water, red rice, brown rice, rice, millet porridge, potato, sweet potato, egg, pork, chicken, fish, etc. Those food should be steamed, boiled or simmered. Avoid fried and other oily cooking methods. Eat appropriate fruits and vegetables until you are about 70% full.

1️⃣Calorie Deficit: Eating less calories than your body needs is the only way to lose fat!⠀
2️⃣Eat Enough Protein: to maintain muscle mass, to recover from workouts, to keep you full and satiated when you’re dieting and so you get toned aka you don’t turn “skinny fat”⠀
3️⃣Lift Weights: 2-5x a week! (usually 3-4 is a sweet spot for most people) don’t be afraid to go heavy, it WON’T make you bulky unless you eat too many calories⠀
4️⃣Sleep: 7-9 hours a night to recover, rest and keep your hunger levels in check. when you don’t sleep enough, your body will be hungrier. so get those Zzzs!⠀
5️⃣Cardio, Movement, and 10k steps/day. Finding active hobbies you enjoy will keep you consistent and make it a lot more fun.⠀

1) TROPICAL MANGO CHIA PUDDING
Ingredients (Serves 2)
1) ¼ cup Chia Seeds – 280Cals (70Cals per tbsp.)
2) 1 cup Milk, any choice – 100Cals
3) 1 tsp. Maple Syrup or Honey – 64Cals
4) 1 cup Mango puree – 140Cals
5) 1 tbsp. Pumpkin Seeds – 56Cals
Per Jar – 320Cals
Steps
1) Pour mango puree evenly into two 8-oz jars. Chill in the fridge.
2) In a bowl, mix together chia seeds, milk and honey. Stir until well combined.
3) Pour chia mixture on top of mango puree.
4) Cover and let it set overnight in the fridge.
5) Next morning, top it up with pumpkin seeds.
2) MATCHA CHIA PUDDING
Ingredients (Serves 2)
1) ¼ cup Chia Seeds – 280Cals
2) 1 cup Milk, any choice – 100Cals
3) 1 tsp. Maple Syrup or Honey – 64Cals
4) 1 tsp. Matcha Green Tea – 9Cals
5) 1 cup Mixed Berries – 60Cals
Per jar – 256.5Cals
Steps
1) In a bowl, mix together chia seeds, milk, honey and matcha. Stir until well combined.
2) Divide equally into two 8-oz jars. Cover and let it set overnight in the fridge.
3) Next morning, add the mixed berries and enjoy!
3) BANANA PEANUT BUTTER CHIA PUDDING
Ingredients (Serves 2)
1) ¼ cup Chia Seeds – 280Cals
2) 1 cup Milk, any choice – 100Cals
3) 1 tsp. Maple Syrup or Honey – 64Cals
4) 1 Large Banana, mashed – 121Cals
5) 2 tbsps. Peanut Butter – 188Cals
Per Jar – 376.5Cals
Steps
1) In a bowl, mix together mashed banana, chia seeds, milk, honey and peanut butter. Stir until well combined.
2) Divide equally into two 8-oz jars. Cover and let it set overnight in the fridge.

Make-ahead, keep in the fridge and in the morning, just grab one jar, and you’re set for a productive day ahead. They will keep well in the fridge for up to 4 days.

My fitness routine is good for those who want to keep fit by doing FUN sports (rather than people trying to do intense workouts to lose weight in a short amount of time...which is not healthy anyway ^^) I think the first step to keeping fit is finding a sport you really enjoy playing. For me, I absolutely love running, swimming, karate and of course, badminton! I find that whenever you play a sport that you love, time flies and before you know it, you'll lose weight naturally and healthily.
Unlike doing specific workouts for your arms or thighs, sports can give you an overall workout which can tone your entire body as a whole! If you want to gain more muscle mass, sports is the way to go. Even if you don't want to want to have bulky muscles, you can just stretch before and after (like I did in this video) to lean out your muscles.
As for myself, I've done karate for a little over 9 years now and I got my black belt last year. The style of karate I do is a branch off of gōjū ryū (剛柔流) called meibukan (明武舘). I've also played badminton basically all my life but I only started playing competitively 4 years ago. I also started swimming competitively (this is not my forte sport but I do enjoy it ^^) 4 years ago as well. To date, I still cannot dive and I just look like a dying elephant cannon balling into the water. I've taken diving lessons before but the coach basically gave up on me. Something about diving just really scares me - I'm shuddering at the thought of diving right now haha. I've never been a competitive runner because I just lightly jog in an attempt to build up my low stamina. I started running long distances the beginning of this Summer. At the beginning of July, I was only able to run 4km max. However, I went running 3 - 4 times a week and now, I can run 6-8km.
Here is how my typical week looks like...
Monday:
Karate (1 hour) + Competitive Badminton Games (3 - 4 hours)
Tuesday:
Running (1 hour)
Wednesday:
Karate (1 hour) + Competitive Badminton Games (3 - 4 hours)
Thursday:
Running (1 hour) + used to do ballet (1 hour)
Friday:
Badminton coaching lessons (1 hour) + leisure badminton (2 hours)
Saturday and Sunday:
My recovery days. You can find me on the couch eating chips and salsa all day haha.
Aside from keeping yourself active, it's also very very important to have a good diet! I try to drink water as much as I can. Sometimes, when I'm not in the mood for water, I go for green tea (or any type of Chinese tea, the type without sugar / cream / milk). Make sure you have a balanced diet with protein and veggies and all that good stuff. I am not knowledgeable in this diet field at all so I would suggest you can find other Youtubers (or a professional) who can provide you with info on how to eat healthy :)
